The general outline is placed on the left side for reference by those living in remote rural areas who do not need to seek medical attention.
After the delivery of the fetus, if the mother suffers from blood vertigo (syncope due to blood loss), she should quickly take Shenghua Tang (Life-Birth Decoction) for three or four doses; continuous administration yields miraculous effects. Even taking just one dose makes the mother feel more energetic, without feeling burdened by the frequency of medication.
If the mother has a weak constitution or presented with deficiency syndromes during pregnancy, and feels fatigued and dizzy after childbirth, she should quickly take one dose of Shenghua Tang.
For the second dose, add two to three qian of Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (Renshen) into the Shenghua Tang, and continue taking it for two or three doses to rescue the critical condition.
In cases of postpartum hemorrhage, blood vertigo, or collapse, quickly administer Shenghua Tang.
Profuse sweating following delivery, accompanied by shortness of breath and coma, constitutes a critical condition. Quickly administer two doses of Shenghua Tang; after the first decoction, add two to three qian of Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (Renshen) to the second dose for emergency rescue. This method also applies to diarrhea starting before delivery and persisting after, accompanied by drowsiness and fatigue.
Postpartum fever with sweating, rapid breathing, and a sensation of blockage and discomfort in the throat is a critical condition. First, complete one dose of Shenghua Tang, then continuously take Shenghua Tang supplemented with Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (Renshen). Only then can life be restored.
In cases of postpartum hemorrhage leading to syncope and fatigue, if the body and extremities remain warm, pry open the mouth and rapidly pour in Shenghua Tang supplemented with Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (Renshen) for rescue. If swallowing is impossible, insert an goose feather tube into the throat to instill the medicine.
Coldness and cold limbs (Jue syndrome) of the hands and feet after childbirth, or dry mouth and thirst, indicate a severe deficiency and critical condition. Massive tonification is required to restore life. Administer Shenghua Tang supplemented with Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (Renshen); for thirst, use Renshen Maidong San (Ginseng and Ophiopogon Powder) as tea.
After hemorrhage leads to collapse, if there is restlessness, eyes closed as if possessed, and incoherent speech, quickly administer the liquid from the first decoction of Shenghua Tang, followed by Dingzhi Yangrong Tang (Stabilize Spirit and Nourish Blood Decoction). Do not believe it is evil spirits and panic.
If the patient cannot eat for a long time after childbirth and vomits immediately upon taking medicine, a single-herb decoction of Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (Renshen) is necessary: use two to three qian of Ginseng, three slices of fresh ginger, and a large pinch of white rice, decocted in water to soothe Stomach Qi. The Stomach favors grain; after prolonged fasting, Stomach Qi is already deficient and cannot withstand the potency of herbs. Ginseng must be decocted separately in a new pot.
Coldness and cold limbs (Jue syndrome) after childbirth result from deficiency of Yin Qi and concomitant deficiency of Yang Qi. When both are deficient, the hands and feet become cold and Jue occurs. The Classics state: "When Yang Qi declines at the lower part, it results in Cold Jue." When Jue Qi ascends and fills the meridians, the form separates from the spirit. Essentially, rebellious Qi fills the meridians and collaterals, causing the Spirit Qi to float away and scatter from the body. Use Jiawei Shenghua Lizhong Tang (Modified Shenghua and Spleen-Regulating Decoction).
Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizome (Chuanxiong) (1 qian) Angelica Sinensis Radix (Danggui) (3 qian) Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens (Ganjiang) (5 fen, stir-fried until black) Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao) (5 fen, stir-fried) Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (Renshen) (3 qian) Astragali Membranacei Radix (Huangqi) (1 qian)
After administering the Ginseng-containing formula, if the cold limbs resolve but pain masses remain, temporarily reduce the dosage of Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (Renshen) and Astragali Membranacei Radix (Huangqi) to eliminate the pain masses. Once the pain masses are resolved, re-add Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (Renshen), Astragali Membranacei Radix (Huangqi), and fifteen Peach Kernels (Taoren), decocted in ginger water.
For thirst, add Renshen Maidong San (Ginseng and Ophiopogon Powder).
Renshen Maidong San Formula
Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (Renshen) (1 qian) Ophiopogonis Tuber (Mendong) (1 qian) Schisandrae Fructus (Wuweizi) (10 grains)
For cold hands and feet with gradually cooling breath, add five fen of Prepared Aconiti Lateralis Radix (Fuzi), increasing the total amount of Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (Renshen) to two to three qian; for phlegm, add five fen of Exocarpium Citri Reticulatae (Chenhong), half a wine cup of Phyllostachydis Succus (Zhuli), and two spoons of Zingiberis Succus (Jiangzhi); for excessive sweating, add one qian of Astragali Membranacei Radix (Huangqi); for pain caused by blood stasis masses, add five fen of Cinnamomi Cortex (Rougui); for severe weakness, add three to four qian of Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (Renshen). For constipation, add one qian and five fen of Cannabis Semen (Huren), followed by Wuren Wan (Five Seeds Pill). Although heat signs may be present, Chengqi Tang (Gut-Purging Decoction) must not be used; for Cold Jue, Sini Tang (Decoction for Reversal of Cold) must not be used; for Heat Jue, Baihu Tang (White Tiger Decoction) must not be used. Postpartum Jue syndrome due to massive blood loss is mostly characterized by dual deficiency of Qi and Blood with collapse. Medication must primarily focus on massive tonification, with minor additions of Moutan Cortex (Danpi) and Cinnamomi Cortex (Guirui) to restore Yang.
For postpartum Jue with extreme thirst, decoct a single-herb preparation of Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (Renshen) in water to replace tea, using three to four qian of Ginseng per decoction.
