The left eye belongs to the Yang meridians, represented by the snake, praising its Fire nature. There is an entity in the South, shaped like a coiled red dragon. It enters and exits without fixed times, and its changes are unfathomable. Following it brings clarity and spiritual brightness; opposing it leads to blazing heat. Only through maintaining unity and centrality can one follow the correct principle. Cultivating it preserves essence; abandoning it leads to loss. One must not depart from it even in haste, ensuring clear vision. Once calm and pure, what illness could there be?
The right eye belongs to Yin essence, represented by the turtle, praising its Water nature. It is the spirit of Primordial Yang, the essence of Kan Water. Its color is dark black and bluish-green, and its nature is peaceful. It breathes in and out the Qi of the Sun and Moon, accommodating fullness and emptiness. Do not labor or shake; take this as the standard. Guard it as one guards water in a bottle, defend it as one defends a city. When Yin and Yang and the Five Elements unite, longevity is possible. Once tranquil and stable, why would the eyes not be bright?
[Diagram of the Eight Palaces' Positions]
The Liver corresponds to the Wind Wheel, belonging to Wood form; the eyelids (Flesh Wheel) belong to Earth and are governed by the Spleen meridian; the pupil (Water Wheel) corresponds to Kidney Water; the Lung corresponds to Metal, known as the Qi Wheel; the canthi (Blood Wheel) correspond to the Heart and belong to Fire. The Five Wheels originally belong to the classification of the Five Elements. Understanding their generation and restriction relationships allows one to distinguish deficiency and excess, harmonizing Yin and Yang to balance Qi and Blood.
Overuse of mental energy causes redness and dryness, indicating damage to the Heart; excessive anger and resentment injure Liver Qi causing it to weaken; improper adaptation to cold and heat damages the Zang-Fu organs; unrestrained sexual activity leads to Kidney deficiency; irregular eating and drinking damage the Spleen and Stomach; invasion by Wind pathogenic factors can be deduced in detail. What causes heat accumulation and binding in the intestines? When clearing heat, one must assess deficiency and excess. In excess conditions, fire boils within the eyes; when heat is prevalent, white nebulae connect within the eyes; in deficiency states, tears flow frequently; wind-aversion with tearing and dizziness occurs.
The Qian Palace corresponds to the Lung and Large Intestine, responsible for transmission; the Kan Palace corresponds to the Kidney and Bladder, the field where body fluids gather; Mingmen, Upper Jiao, Huiyin, and Gen Palace correspond accordingly; the Zhen Palace corresponds to the Gallbladder and Liver, the place of purity; the Xun Palace corresponds to Liver collaterals and Middle Jiao, nourishing transformation; the Li Palace corresponds to the Small Intestine, Pericardium, and Yang; the Dui Palace corresponds to Kidney collaterals, Lower Jiao, Guanquan; the Kun Palace corresponds to the Spleen and food/grain, strengthened by Stomach Qi. Combining the Chong vessel and generation/restriction relationships to distinguish deficiency and excess, treating according to symptoms leads to recovery.
The cause of issues in the Transmission Palace originates in its own meridian; Lung Qi stagnation and Heat damage the eyes. If the Large Intestine is unresponsive, treatment is required; during obstruction, nebulae invade. Vision is blurred as if looking through clouds; how to handle aversion to sunlight when raising the head? Urgently tonify the Kidney and abstain from sexual intercourse to avoid severe dimness. Vision is faint as if in fog; constantly wipe both pupils with hands. Know that frequent cold tears indicate Liver deficiency and attacking Gallbladder Qi. The Small Intestine belongs to the Guanquan Palace; disease transmission starts from the Heart. Both canthi are red, accompanied by heart itching and pain; regulating the meridians leads to natural recovery. How can dimness have no cause? Excessive wine and sex bring worry. Do not say eye dimness is trivial; endure the shroud of fog wrapping both eyes. Holding True Yang internally is Mingmen; colors are indistinguishable due to visual spots. If one cannot tonify the Kidney and regulate deficient Qi, the pupil appears纵横 (disordered) as if rooted. Dietary injury lies in the Stomach; combined with accumulated Heat, they attack each other. Eyelids gradually swell, eyes become red; if the central palace's heat is not resolved, blockage persists. The Bladder belongs to Water, the Kidney to Heaven; cold tears appearing indicates fault in the internal organ. Red vessels crisscross within the contours; without a skilled physician, how can one recover?
