Hot tears flowing out in the wind. Liver deficiency with accompanying fire. Hidden within the water, it arises; if prolonged, it becomes an internal disaster.
Hot tears flow out when exposed to wind, caused by liver deficiency combined with fire pathogen. This fire lies hidden within the kidney water (Yin fluid); if left untreated for a long time, it becomes an internal affliction.
This condition occurs regardless of the time or type of wind encountered; hot tears flow whenever it is observed. If accompanied by other symptoms or typical wind-cold patterns, it is not this condition. It is due to insufficient fluids of the Gallbladder, Liver, and Kidney waters. Because the orifices are loose and unconsolidated due to deficiency, wind pathogens draw out the tears. The latent fire within flares up, causing the tears to feel hot. If not treated for a long time, or if triggered by external factors, complications may arise. It is suitable to take:
Lingyangjiao San (Treats liver heat causing blurred vision and frequent hot tears.)
Lingyangjiao (Antelope Horn, finely ground powder), Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Xuanshen (Scrophulariae Radix), Cheqianzi (Plantaginis Semen), Shanzhiren (Gardeniae Fructus, stir-fried), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Gualou (Trichosanthis Fructus) (each 5 qian), Huhuanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma var. chinensis), Jiajuhua (Chrysanthemi Flos) (each 3 qian), Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma) (1 qian).
Grind all ingredients into a fine powder. Take 2 qian per dose, mixed with decoction of Zhu Ye (Bambusa Leaves) after meals.
Baijiangcan San (Treats tearing induced by wind exposure.)
Baijiangcan (Bombyx Batryticatus, stir-fried), Fencao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Xuanfuhua (Inulae Flos), Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma), Muzecao (Equiseti Herba), Jingjie (Schizonepetae Spica) (each 2.5 qian), Nensangye (Mori Folium) (1 liang).
Grind all ingredients into a fine powder. Take 2 qian per dose, decocted in water, taken warm after meals.
Zhenzhu San (Treats tearing upon wind exposure due to liver deficiency.)
Zhenzhu (Pearl, separately ground), Dansha (Cinnabaris, ground) (each 3 fen), Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma, ground) (2 fen), Beichi (Concha Arcae, calcined, quenched with water, dried, and ground) (1 liang).
Grind all ingredients together into an extremely fine powder and mix evenly. Wrap in cooked silk gauze three times. When lying supine, apply a small amount to the eyes. Keeping the eyes closed for a short while is ideal.
Cold tears flowing at any time. Water and Wood are both injured. This is a deep affliction of dark Yin. Its pathology is extraordinary. However, this disease often appears unexpectedly; it results either in Qingmang (blindness) or Neizhang (internal eye cataract/disease).
This condition presents without redness or heat in the eyes. It is merely the frequent flow of cold tears. Over time, vision becomes dim and blurry. It differs from the mild case of cold tears in the wind caused by deficiency inviting pathogens. This condition stems from the depletion of essence and fluids, gradual weakening of Liver Qi, drying up of the ocular essence, insufficiency of Kidney Water, and extreme accumulation of dark Yin. If left untreated for a long time, it leads to Neizhang or Qingmang. Individuals with depleted essence and blood, those who have suffered from prolonged grief and crying, depression, or women who wept excessively after childbirth, often suffer from this condition. Moreover, its harm develops slowly, so people do not worry about it. Often, they suffer the consequences only when the disaster has already occurred, making regret too late. It is suitable to take:
Jujing Wan (Treats insufficiency of Liver and Kidney causing dim vision, unclear sight, vast blurriness, frequent seeing of black flowers, and abundant cold tears. Long-term use tonifies deficiencies and strengthens Liver and Kidney.)
Ganjuhua (Chrysanthemi Flos, remove stems and leaves, 4 liang, stir-fried), Bajiji (Morinda Officinalis Radix, remove heart, 1 liang), Rongshunrou (Cistanches Herba, washed in wine, peel removed, stir-fried, sliced, and baked, 2 liang), Gouqizi (Lycii Fructus, crushed and baked, 3 liang).
Grind all ingredients into a fine powder. Form pills using refined honey, sized like tung tree seeds. Take 3 qian per dose, swallowed before meals on an empty stomach with warm wine or light salt water.
Shexiang San (Treats incessant cold tears in the eyes. Administered via nose.)
Xiangfu (Cyperi Rhizoma), Chuanjiaomu (Zanthoxyli Semen) (equal parts), Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma), Shexiang (Moschus) (small amounts each).
Grind all ingredients into a fine powder. Ask the patient to hold a mouthful of water, then blow the powder into the nostrils.
