The light, clear, round, and vigorous is Heaven; thus the head symbolizes Heaven. The heavy, turbid, square, and dense is Earth; thus the feet symbolize Earth. The floating, soaring, and circulating is Cloud; thus Qi (Vital Energy) symbolizes Cloud. The flowing and circulating is Water; thus Blood symbolizes Water. Heaven descends and Earth ascends; Clouds soar and Water flows; each follows its nature. Thus all things are born and endless. When Yang is balanced and Yin is secure, Qi moves and Blood follows; each obtains harmony. Thus the hundred bones are regulated and there is surplus. If contrary to this, Heaven and Earth do not descend or ascend; Clouds and Water do not soar or flow; each does not follow its nature. If contrary to this, Yin and Yang are not balanced or secure; Qi and Blood do not move or follow; each does not obtain harmony. Therefore it is said that the human body is a small Heaven and Earth. The *Nan Jing* states: "Blood is Ying (Nutritive Qi), Qi is Wei (Defensive Qi). Ying circulates within the vessels, Wei circulates outside the vessels." This shows that Blood and Qi are separate and not mixed, moving without obstruction. It is clear. Thus, like clouds soaring and water flowing, they do not mix. Generally, Blood and Qi are thus, desiring not to mix. Mixing leads to obstruction; obstruction leads to knotting; knotting means no departure or return. Thus, hidden within the skin, it becomes a wart disease. However, it appears according to the meridians. Warts arising from the upper and lower eyelashes are due to the Hand Shaoyin Heart Meridian and Foot Jueyin Liver Meridian, formed by the mixing and knotting of Blood and Qi. At the initial stage, they are only bean-sized. In cases of deficient Blood and Qi, they stop growing; in others, after stopping for a long time, they grow again. In robust cases, they gradually grow endlessly, becoming like cups, bowls, or buckets, all starting from bean-sized. Treatment should begin early. The main principle is to have the patient eat until full, then wash the eyes with cold well water as if ice, preventing Qi and Blood from moving. Then, hold a copper pillar with the left hand, pressing on the eyelashes. With the right hand, turn the eyelid inside out. Once the wart flesh protrudes, press it firmly with the left thumb to prevent movement. Use the tip of a small eyebrow blade with the right hand to slightly pierce the lesion. Then, use the thumbnails of both hands to twist and extract it. The extracted material resembles a small yellow fat bead. To ensure the root is severed, use the tip of an eyebrow knife to cut it off. Wash again with well water; afterwards, there will be no harm. Skillful and swift manual technique is key. After the procedure, administer Fangfeng Sanjie Tang (Windproof Decoction for Resolving Knots); several doses will lead to recovery. This disease cannot be removed without manual intervention. Why? Because when Blood and Qi first mix, medicine can reach the site; however, patients are unaware of this mixing. Once knotted, medicine cannot reach it. Therefore, manual removal is necessary. After removal, ascending and dispersing herbs must be used. Both medicinal and manual approaches must be employed for success.
Fangfeng Sanjie Tang (Windproof Decoction for Resolving Knots) [Indication: For warts arising from the upper and lower eyelids, taken after manual removal.]
Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Dangguiwei (Angelicae Sinensis Radix caulis), Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) (each 6 fen), Honghua (Carthami Flos), Sumu (Sappan Lignum) (each a small amount), Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma), Baifuling (Poria), Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix), Qianhu (Peucedani Radix), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) (each 5 fen), Xigancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma preparata), Fangji (Stephaniae Tetrandrae Radix) (each 4 fen).
Crush the ingredients. Add two zhong of water, decoct to one zhong, and take hot. Decoct the dregs again.
In the above formula, Fangfeng and Qianghuo ascend and diffuse Yang Qi, serving as the Sovereign (Jun) herbs. Baishao, Dangguiwei, Honghua, and Sumu break stagnation and promote Blood circulation, serving as the Minister (Chen) herbs. Fuling drains pathogenic factors, Cangzhu removes dampness from the upper body, Qianhu benefits the five Zang organs, Duhuo dispels wind pathogens, and Huangqin treats heat and nourishes transformation, serving as the Assistant (Zuo) herbs. Gancao harmonizes the various herbs, and Fangji guides the action through the twelve meridians, serving as the Envoy (Shi) herb. For lesions on the upper eyelids, add Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma) and Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix), because the Hand Shaoyin and Foot Jueyin meridians are affected. For lesions on the lower eyelids, add Gaoben (Ligustici Rhizoma et Radix) and Manjingzi (Viticis Fructus), because the Hand Taiyang meridian is affected.
