One discussion on smallpox. When Qi and Blood are deficient, or when wind pathogens and foul toxins invade, the toxin of the sores may sink inward, lying latent without emerging, or emerge unevenly and irregularly.
This medicine invigorates blood, regulates Qi, harmonizes the stomach, tonifies deficiency, and uses the "internal support" method to expel sore toxins, ensuring they all emerge completely, facilitating easy scabbing and healing.
Neituo San (Internal Support Powder)
Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix), Huang Qi (Astragali Radix), Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) [each 2 qian], Chuan Xiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Fang Feng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Jie Geng (Platycodonis Radix), Hou Po (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex) [stir-fried with ginger juice], Bai Zhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) [each 1 qian], Mu Xiang (Aucklandiae Radix), Rou Gui (Cinnamomi Cortex) [each 3 fen].
Regarding the above formula: If the lesions are red-purple, dry, and sunken black, indicating Heat-Toxin, remove Rou Gui, and add Zi Cao (Arnebiae Radix), Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix), and Hong Hua (Carthami Flos). Mix this powder with Chuan Shan Jia (Manis Squama) stir-fried until bubbling, ground into fine powder (5 fen), and take together. If the lesions are pale white, grayish-black, and sunken/latent, indicating Deficiency-Cold, add Ding Xiang (Caryophylli Flos) to warm the interior, and Rou Gui to warm the exterior. For cases where suppuration should occur but does not, double the dosage of Ren Shen, Huang Qi, and Dang Gui. Decoct thoroughly, and before administration, mix in human milk and good wine. This is a clever method for promoting suppuration. For diarrhea, add Ding Xiang, Gan Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma), and Rou Dou Kou (Myristicae Semen).
Another discussion on smallpox: When the pustules have formed, emerged fully but fail to swell, or have swelled fully but fail to scab, it is due to internal deficiency. Since the pustules have emerged as grayish-white, with flat tops that do not rise, or are sunken and latent, this indicates severe deficiency of Qi and Blood. This formula is suitable.
Guiron Tang (Deer Antler and Angelica Decoction)
Nen Lu Rong (Young Cervus Nippon Cornu Colla) [roasted with butter], Dang Gui Shen (Dang Gui body) [washed with wine].
Chop 5 qian, decoct in good wine, and take warm.
Another discussion: Smallpox belonging to Deficiency-Cold. After eight or nine days, the color is white like water blisters, the top is sunken, the root is white, accompanied by symptoms such as itching collapse, chills, and teeth grinding.
Huiyang Tang (Return Yang Decoction)
Lu Rong (Cervus Nippon Cornu Colla) [roasted with butter], Da Fu Zi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata) [baked in dough, skin and umbilicus removed], Huang Qi (Astragali Radix), Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) [washed with wine].
Chop, decoct in good wine, and take warm.
Another discussion: When smallpox reaches the stage of suppuration and scabbing, if the lesions collapse and sink, accompanied by palpitations, rapid breathing, and confusion, death may occur suddenly. Use 1 liang of high-quality Ren Shen, decoct in water to make a thick liquid, and administer orally; consciousness will return immediately.
Another discussion: Grayish-white or black sunken lesions with vomiting of white foam indicate Exterior Deficiency.
Muxiang San (Costus Root Powder) [Eleven Ingredients]
Mu Xiang (Aucklandiae Radix) [3 fen], Qian Hu (Peucedani Radix) [8 fen], Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) [roasted 3 fen], Chi Fu Ling (Poria Cocos with Red Skin, peeled) [1 qian], Da Fu Pi (Arecae Pericarpium) [1 qian], Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix) [5 fen], Chen Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium], Rou Gui (Cinnamomi Cortex) [each 8 fen], Ding Xiang (Caryophylli Flos) [five male flowers], Ban Xia (Pinelliae Rhizoma) [stir-fried with ginger juice 8 fen], He Zi (Terminalia Chebulae Fructus) [roasted, shell removed 1 qian].
Chop one dose, add three slices of ginger, one cup of water, decoct to remaining 80%, and take warm. For severe vomiting, add Bai Dou Kou (Amomi Fructus Rotundus), shelled.
Another discussion: Chills, teeth grinding, itching collapse, and diarrhea indicate Interior Deficiency.
Yigong San (Extraordinary Merit Powder) [Twelve Ingredients]
Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) [washed with wine], Rou Dou Kou (Myristicae Semen) [roasted, oil removed], Chen Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) [de-stalked, stir-fried], Bai Fu Ling (Poria Cocos, peeled), Da Fu Zi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata) [baked in dough, skin and umbilicus removed], Ban Xia (Pinelliae Rhizoma) [stir-fried with ginger juice, each 1 qian], Hou Po (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex], Rou Gui (Cinnamomi Cortex) [each 8 fen], Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix) [5 fen], Xiao Ding Xiang (Caryophylli Flos) [seven grains], Mu Xiang (Aucklandiae Radix) [powdered 8 fen].
Chop one dose, add three slices of ginger and three dates, one zhong of water, decoct to remaining 80%, and take warm. For severe diarrhea, add roasted He Zi Mei (mesocarp).
Another discussion: This formula is a sacred medicine for erupting smallpox and detoxification. It treats red macules, black sunken lesions that do not rise, smallpox carbuncles, and all critical malignant conditions. Using it yields immediate life-saving effects.
Xiao Ling Dan (Little Spirit Pill)
Xiong Huang (Realgar), Zhu Sha (Cinnabar) [each 2 qian], Ru Xiang (Olibanum), Mo Yao (Myrrha) [each 1.5 qian], Da Chan Chu (Bufo bufo) [take heart and liver, bake on tile until dry 5 fen], She Xiang (Moschus) [2 fen].
Grind into fine powder. Take pig heart blood and rooster comb blood to form pills the size of soap nuts. Take one pill per dose. If there is no high fever, dissolve in wine. If fever is severe and wine cannot be taken, administer with Zi Cao (Arnebiae Radix) and Deng Xin Cao (Junci Medullae) decoction. The lesions will immediately become red, vibrant, and raised.
Another discussion: When smallpox initially emerges bright and strong, but suddenly turns black and sunken, accompanied by mental restlessness, rapid breathing, chest fullness, delirious speech, and hallucinations of seeing ghosts, urgent treatment is required. Otherwise, the toxic qi will enter the zang organs, leading to certain death.
Ren Ya San (Human Tooth Powder)
Ren Ya (Human Teeth) burned to retain nature, ground into fine powder. One tooth constitutes one dose. Take with wine. Immediate effect.
Another secret recipe: Use one human tooth (fire-processed), Zhu Sha (Cinnabar) 3 fen, Xiong Huang (Realgar) 3 fen, grind into fine powder. First, make Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) into powder and boil into a paste. Mix in the three ingredients. Then dilute with good ash-free wine and administer. Treats malignant conditions where smallpox fails to erupt, critically urgent. Immediate effect upon ingestion.
Wujia San (Priceless Powder) treats the same symptoms as above.
Ren Ya (Human Teeth), Mao Ya (Cat Teeth), Zhu Ya (Pig Teeth), Quan Ya (Dog Teeth).
Equal parts. Burn each with charcoal, retaining smoke, cover with a clay bowl to retain nature, then grind into powder. For children aged five or six, take 3-4 fen, mixed with good hot wine. For those with itching collapse, chills, and diarrhea, decoct Yigong San and mix. If cat teeth are unavailable, using only human teeth is also good, but using all four types is superior.
Another discussion: Smallpox with chills, teeth grinding, sunken and unemitted after six or seven days, failing to suppurate, turning black, with vital Qi nearly exhausted. This formula works immediately. Not suitable for those with diarrhea.
Sanxian San (Three Immortals Powder) transmitted by Hu Binjiang from Chu-Huang.
Chuan Shan Jia (Manis Squama) 8 liang. Use 1 jin of good jiang'er wine. Roast Chuan Shan Jia over low fire until dry, soak again, roast again, until the wine is consumed.
Chuan Shan Jia (Manis Squama) [1 liang], She Xiang (Moschus) [2 fen], Zhu Sha (Cinnabar) [boiled in Ma Huang (Ephedrae Herba) water 1 qian].
Grind into fine powder. Take 5-7 fen or 1 qian per dose, mixed with warm wine.
Another prescription for the above symptoms: Use Chuan Shan Jia alone. Stir-fry over charcoal fire until bubbling, grind into powder. Take 5-7 fen per dose, mixed with Muxiang Tang (Costus Root Decoction). Also effective.
Another discussion: Smallpox purple-black and dry, turning black and returning to the Kidney. Body feels hot as if roasted by fire. Suitable for those without diarrhea.
Xiling San (Rhino and Antelope Horn Powder) transmitted by Wu Zhuyang.
Wu Xi Jiao (Rhinocerotis Cornu), Ling Yang Jiao (Capricornis Subvirginis Cornu).
Grind these two ingredients and take with cold water. Has miraculous life-restoring effects.
Another discussion: Smallpox fails to erupt, black sunken, near death. Can be taken.
Wanjina San (Ten Thousand Gold Powder)
Ren, Mao, Zhu, Quan [feces]. Burn in the morning. Dilute slightly with honey water.
Store the feces of the aforementioned four animals in a silver pot early in the morning before sunrise. Bake over charcoal fire until smoke ceases. For any slow-emerging sores, inverted scabs, black sunken lesions, and all malignant sores, take one spoonful, mixed with honey water. Effect is miraculous.
Another discussion: From eruption to scabbing, purgation is generally contraindicated; use this to guide. If after scabbing, previous symptoms persist, purgation is indicated.
Another discussion: Among smallpox lesions, large, purple-black ones are ding toxins (carbuncles). They block eruption. Urgently pierce with an awl and apply the following medicine.
Sisheng San (Four Sages Powder)
Zhen Zhu (Margarita) [3-5 grains, popped on iron vessel until slightly yellow, ground], Wan Dou (Pisi Semen) [49 grains, burned to ash retaining nature], Tou Fa (Capillus Humanus) [burned retaining nature, amount unspecified].
Grind into fine powder. Mix with facial cream and rouge to form a paste. Keep the child in a warm place, avoiding wind, cold, and foul air. First, gently open the ding mouth with the tip of an awl. Apply the medicine into the ding. It will immediately turn red, and other sores will rise. Simply pierce to release black blood, or suck out black blood after opening, or wrap finger in cotton and squeeze out black blood. Healing follows. This is because piercing the ding disperses the toxic qi.
A woman had smallpox. At the stage of swelling and impending suppuration, it suddenly turned purple-black, bleeding when scratched. This smallpox belongs to excessive Heat-Toxin. Use Pi Xiao (Mirabilite) unspecified amount, add a pinch of Hua Jiao (Zanthoxyli Pericarpium), decoct in water. Dip green cloth in the solution and apply frequently to the affected area for a long time. The swelling will recover as before.
