Pediatric Zhu disease (Chronic infectious/parasitic disease) has three types. The first is Gui Zhu (Ghost Zhu). Children have weak Shen Hun Qi (Spirit and Soul Qi). Being held day and night, entering and exiting without regularity, they are invaded by Gui Li Xie Qi (Ghostly Malignant Pathogenic Factors). The manifestations include skin pulling pain that migrates unpredictably, or stabbing pain in the heart and abdomen, body contortion, severe distress, and a desire to die; this is called Zhong E (Sudden Evil Invasion). Severe cases lead to sudden death, while mild cases drag on for years, becoming increasingly sluggish and heavy, eventually leading to death. It can also infect others.
The second is Shi Zhu (Corpse Zhu). There are worms in the human abdomen, referred to as Shi Zhu. Children have tender and weak blood and qi. External pathogenic factors invade and stagnate in the body. The Corpse Worms migrate and induce pathology through mutual aggression. The manifestations include a silent and depressed demeanor, uncertainty about the specific location of pain, alternating chills and fever, or stifling pain in the heart and abdomen. It drags on for years, eventually leading to death. It can also infect others.
The third is Gu Du Zhu (Poisonous Gu Zhu). This refers to various poisonous insects where one species consumes the others, considered the most potent, named Gu. It may be artificially created or transmitted via infusion, entering the child's abdomen with food and drink, consuming the internal organs. The manifestations include stabbing pain in the heart and abdomen, extreme restlessness and suffocation, frequent dysentery, or bloody stools. Acute cases result in immediate death, termed Gu Du Poisoning; chronic cases drag on until organ rot causes death. It can also infect others. The following treatment formulas are listed below.
Tiger Head Pillow
Treats invasion by Ghost Qi, acting as wandering Qi or demonic obstruction. Use tiger head bone as a pillow for the child to sleep on.
Qianjin Tang (Thousand Gold Decoction)
Treats pediatric sudden fright, crying, apnea, and death caused by external pathogenic factors chasing the child. When conventional physicians fail, use Sichuan Pepper (Zanthoxyli Fructus) and Left-Gazing Oyster Shell (Ostreae Concha), each 6 zhu, crushed. Boil in one sheng of vinegar juice until reduced to five he. Divide and administer.
Dou Chi Wan (Fermented Soybean Pill)
Treats cold and heat caused by Zhong E Ghost Qi. Make pills from moistened fermented soybeans (Douchi) the size of a chicken egg. Rub them on the child's cheeks, palms, and soles six to seven times each. Also rub over the heart, abdomen, and umbilicus.
Another Formula: Treats Zhong E evil ghost Qi or sudden death during remission. Pound Acorus rhizome (Shichangpu Radix) until pulpy, extract the juice, and instill it.
Another Formula: Same treatment. Burn sheep feces to produce smoke and fumigate the nose.
Another Formula: Same treatment. Inspect the inner upper lip of the deceased; if there is a nodule like a millet seed, puncture it with a needle to revive the patient.
Another Formula: Same treatment. Blow a small amount of Sophora flower (Zaojiao Fructus) powder or raw Pinellia tuber (Banxia Rhizoma) powder into both nostrils.
Another Method: Same treatment. For those dead from Zhong E evil or demons, do not illuminate with lamps, nor call out urgently nearby, nor exchange breath, to avoid contagion which often causes death. Instead, bite the heels firmly, the edges of the toenails, and spit saliva onto the face to revive.
Another Formula: Same treatment. Soak cotton wool in good wine for half a cup, squeeze the juice, and instill into the nose.
Another Method: Same treatment. Blow into both ears using a reed tube. Take fourteen strands of the patient's hair, twist them into a thread, and insert into the nose.
Another Formula: Treats Zhong E ghost evil causing wandering stabbing pain, or urgent cramping pain in the chest, hypochondrium, and abdomen, intolerable to touch or massage. Instill good wine into the nostrils. Also treats Zhong E with hematemesis and hematochezia.
Another Formula: Same treatment. Mix one qian of salt with one cup of water, stir well, and ingest. Splash with cold water to induce vomiting for cure.
Another Formula: Same treatment. Ingest Curcuma phaeocaulis (Pengzhu Rhizoma) prepared with wine.
Another Formula: Same treatment. Ingest loess soil from under the stove mixed with water.
Another Formula: Treats Zhong E ghost evil afflictions, as well as Gui Zhu and Shi Zhu. Grind peach kernels (Persicae Semen) finely, boil in water, and administer frequently. Cure occurs upon vomiting. If vomiting does not occur or is incomplete, the disease recurs. Alternatively, use peach kernel juice to cook rice porridge for feeding.
