Infants and children developing various "evil sores" (Echuang, severe ulcers) on the body are caused by heat pathogens in the fu organs rushing outward. Externally, they are affected by wind-dampness. The internal and external pathogens multiply each other, contending with blood and qi. They stop and accumulate at weak points along the meridians, generating lesions of varying sizes, either itchy or painful. Upon rupture, they form sores discharging pus or blood, with tissue rotting and decaying. Those caused by toxic factors that persist without healing are all termed "evil sores." If the toxin attacks inwardly, it can also transform into sore conditions.
Treatment for small sores with itching and pain:
Xuanlian (Coptidis Rhizoma, 1 liang, remove rootlets), Nifen (Calomelas, 1 fen), Baiji (Bletillae Rhizoma, 1 liang), Wuyi (Alpiniae Katsumadai Semen, 0.5 liang, remove skin).
Grind into fine powder. First wash the superficial sores and dry them. Mix with raw sesame oil and apply topically.
Treatment for large sores with pain:
Huandan (Lithargyri Pulvis, 1 liang), Nifen (Calomelas, 1 qian). Grind finely and mix uniformly. Chew apricot kernels to extract juice and use it to mix and apply the powder.
Treatment for sores feeling like burns:
Pound leaves of Ficus pumila (Chibiliye) into powder. Mix with oil and apply.
Treatment for lung-toxic wind-sores resembling leprosy:
Take high-quality mulberry leaves, wash clean, steam overnight, sun-dry, and grind into powder. Take 1 qian per dose, mixed with warm water, at any time.
Treatment for unrecognized evil sores:
Mash dung beetles (Qianglang), squeeze out the juice, and apply. This method also treats gan sores (childhood malnutrition-related ulcers).
Treatment for various evil sores:
Burn hooves of yellow cattle to ash, ensuring repeated burning until extremely fine. Add a small amount of Moschus (Shexiang), mix well, and sprinkle dry powder onto the sore.
Another prescription, treating as above:
Scrape the outer bark of Cortex Lycii Radicis (Digupi) first, set aside separately. Then scrape the white, powdery inner bark beneath it, grind into fine powder. Next, finely chop the red, hard bark below that. Mix all three types together to make coarse powder. Store coarse and fine powders separately. For use, take 1 he of coarse powder, decoct into a thick liquid, and wash the sore while hot until cool. Dry with soft cloth, then apply the fine powder. Wash and apply once daily until healed.
Another prescription, treating as above:
Stir-fry fermented soybeans (Chidou) until charred and smokeless, grind into fine powder, and apply. It usually heals within a few applications.
Another prescription, treating as above:
Take half a sheng of aged wheat, stir-fry until black in a vessel not made of iron. Add half a qian of calcined alum (Kubai Fan) ash. Grind together into fine powder. Apply a small amount to the sore.
Another prescription, treating as above:
Cortex Phellodendri Amurensis (Huangbai, remove coarse bark if thick), Rhizoma Coptidis (Huanglian, remove rootlets), Fructus Gardeniae Jasminoidis (Shanzhizi, remove shell), Radix Glycyrrhizae Uralensis (Gancao, 1 liang each).
Cut each herb into bean-sized pieces. Stir-fry in a stone pot until smoke ceases, resembling charcoal. Cool, grind finely, add 1 qian of Moschus (Shexiang), and mix well. First wash the sore with warm rice water to remove pus and blood completely. Dry with soft cloth, sprinkle medicine on the sore, cover with paper slices, and wrap with soft cloth for protection. Reapply every other day; keep away from water. Previously, an old soldier in Weizhou suffered from sores for nine years, with ulceration exposing bone. He was cured effectively using this remedy.
Treatment for damage from moxibustion sores:
Mix marrow from pig tibia bones with Calomelas (Nifen) to form a paste. Insert into the bone cavity. Wrap with mud, roast over fire until cooked, then remove. First wash the sore with salt water, then apply. Immediate effect is expected.
Expelling pus and blood from evil sores:
Crush 20 seeds of Croton Tiglium (Badou). Fry in 2 liang of pure hemp seed oil until blackened and scorched. Remove beans and filter. Add 1 liang of Lithargyri Pulvis (Huandan). Stir with several branches of willow growing eastward. Decoct into a plaster. Spread on silk and apply as a patch. Cover with ash from reed joints (Jiajie).
Treatment for infant fish-umbilical sores (Yuzhi Chuang), named for their resemblance to a fish's navel. This is also a type of evil sore.
Roast snake slough (Shetuipi) until golden yellow, 1 liang. Burn to ash and grind finely. Mix with egg white and apply sparingly.
Treatment for infant fish-umbilical sores:
Burn cold-food maltose (Hanshi Xing) to ash, grind, and apply. Pound white lettuce (Baiwoju), squeeze juice. Prick the four sides of the sore with a needle, then drip the juice onto the wound.
Treatment for wind-qiang contention causing sores in infants:
Earthworm (Dilong, remove soil, 1 liang), Bombyx Batryticatus (Baijiangcan, remove mouthparts, 1 liang), Rhizoma Chuanxiong (Chuanxiong, 1 liang), Radix Glycyrrhizae Uralensis (Gancao, 1 liang, raw).
Grind into fine powder. Take 1 qian or 0.5 qian, mixed with mint tea.
Treatment for chronic evil sores unresponsive to treatment, with black rotting flesh and dark-red pus:
First, grind equal parts of Ashwood (Buhui Mu) and Areca Seed (Binglang) into fine powder. Sprinkle on the sore. Wait until flesh turns red and pus becomes yellow, then use the following Muxiang San.
Muxiang San:
Radix Aucklandiae (Muxiang, 2 qian), Areca Seed (Binglang, 1 qian), Rhizoma Coptidis (Huanglian, remove rootlets, 4 qian).
Grind together into fine powder. Apply dry powder directly. It is highly effective.
Maxian San:
Treating various sores that have persisted and transformed into evil sores.
Portulaca Oleracea (Maxiancai, 1 liang, preferably from walls), Dabo Viper Meat (Wushe Rou, 1 liang, soaked in wine overnight, dried), Tribulus Terrestris Fruit (Jili Zi, 0.5 liang, stir-fried, thorns removed), Human Hair (Luankuafa, 0.5 liang, burned to ash), Thorn of Ziziphus Jujuba (Qutoujizhen, 0.5 liang, burned to ash), Red Silk Cloth (Feibozzi, 0.5 liang, burned to ash).
Grind into fine powder. Based on the size of the sore, mix medicine with white wine, spread on cloth, and apply to the sore.
Application for chronic non-healing sores:
Colophony (Baijiaoxiang), Halloysitum Rubrum (Chishizhi), Cortex Phellodendri Amurensis (Huangbai), Litharge (Miduoseng), 0.5 liang each. Grind into fine powder. Apply dry powder to the sore.
Another prescription, treating various sores:
Place 3 snails in a porcelain box. Add a little Moschus (Shexiang), cover, and roast over fire. Grind into fine powder. Mix with water to form pills. Insert one pill into the sore per use.
Another prescription:
Apply powder of Achyranthes Bidentata Root (Niuxi). It is excellent.
Another prescription, treating as above:
Mix equal parts of Adzuki Bean (Chixiaodou) and Rhizoma Coptidis (Huanglian) into powder. Wash the sore with warm rice water containing salt, then sprinkle medicine. Alternatively, simply sprinkle Colophony (Baijiaoxiang) powder alone. It is also effective.
Wujin San:
Treating gan sores discharging pus and water, with persistent pain, unresponsive to other medicines, and presence of worms. Take lamb bones in any quantity. Place in a sealed jar, seal with salt mud, roast over charcoal until appropriate. Grind finely. Take 5 qian of powder, add 1 qian of Moschus powder and 1 qian of Realgar powder. Grind and mix well. Observe the size of the sore. First wash pus and blood clean with warm water suitable for hand-washing. Swish in the mouth to clean the area. Dry with soft cloth. Fill the sore cavity completely with the medicine. Flesh regeneration occurs immediately; the sore closes within three days.
