Pediatric patients may exhibit a tendency to sweat profusely over the entire body. This is due to the deficiency of Ying (Nutritive Qi) and Wei (Defensive Qi). Ying and Wei Qi accompany each other, circulating through the meridians and networks, encompassing the whole body in an unceasing cycle. Ying belongs to Yin, while Wei belongs to Yang. When Ying Qi is deficient, body fluids leak out; when Wei Qi is deficient, it fails to secure and consolidate the exterior. Consequently, this leads to a propensity for sweating all over the body. Qian Yi used Xianggua Wan (Melon Pill) for treatment. If sweating occurs during sleep without the patient's awareness, this is termed Dao Han (Night Sweats) caused by muscle deficiency. It is akin to a thief stealing goods unnoticed. In cases where sweating is confined only to the forehead, this results from excessive clothing warmth and improper nurturing/care. For these two conditions, Qian Yi uniformly employed Zhihan San (Stop-Sweating Powder). If sweating extends from the head down to the neck but does not exceed the chest, this is Liu Yang Xu Han (Sweating due to Six-Yang Deficiency), as the six Yang meridians all ascend to the head. If sweating extends from the neck down to the umbilicus, this is Wei Xu Han (Stomach-Deficiency Sweating), which requires tonifying the Stomach. Previously, Qian Yi treated three sons of the Zhang family: the eldest had a tendency to sweat all over; the second sweated from the neck to the umbilicus; the youngest sweated only on the head and face, with no sweating below the neck. Other physicians treated them with Maijian San (Wheat Decoction Powder) without effect, so they invited Qian Yi. The eldest was given Xianggua Wan (Melon Pill), the second Yihuang San (Benefit-Yellow Powder), and the youngest Shigao Tang (Gypsum Decoction). Each recovered after five days of administration. Qian Yi’s prescriptions are recorded in this collection, and other collected formulas are appended afterwards.
