The Heart belongs to Fire and resides on the upper forehead. The Liver governs the left cheek, while the Lung faces the right cheek. Kidney Water is governed in the lower chin area. Spleen Earth corresponds to the lips and the tip of the nose.
Liver color is Green, Heart color is Red, Lung disease manifests as White. Kidney color is Black, Spleen color is Yellow; these need not cause confusion. By examining whether Yuan Qi (Original Qi) is Excess or Deficiency, and clearly distinguishing between Tonification and Purging methods, one achieves divine skill.
Blue-green lines on the forehead indicate fright due to shock. If it suddenly turns grayish-white, life will rapidly approach its end. It is best to seek effective medicine early, so as not to let the root of the disease deepen gradually.
Cyan color at Yintang (GV29) indicates fright from external shock. Red and white colors both stem from the invasion of Water and Fire pathogens. To remain peaceful and free from disease, calming fright and clearing heat will bring tranquility.
A slight yellow hue at Nianshou (the nasal bridge) is the correct normal color. If it appears flat and depressed, premature death is difficult to avoid. Sudden dysentery accompanied by a black complexion is a critical sign. Severe cholera with vomiting and diarrhea, marked by deep yellow tones, also indicates severe illness.

When healthy, the tip of the nose should be slightly yellow. If the yellow is excessive, one should long fear entry into the realm of death. A black complexion inevitably leads to death from restlessness; why bother saving such calamity with miraculous pills?
Cyan color in both eyebrows is auspicious. In the initial stage of Cholera, yellow excess is observed. Restlessness and night crying with redness appear. Purple arises from Wind-Heat, and Red may still lead to demise.
The origin of the eyes inherently belongs to the Liver. A yellow tint in the black pupil indicates Taiyang Cold Damage Syndrome (Shanghan). Yellow eyeballs, Phlegm accumulation, and redness indicate Heat. One must carefully observe if the black and white are distinct.
Cyan color at Taiyang (Exhaling Yang) initially indicates fright. Red indicates Cold Damage, and bright red indicates Lin syndrome (dysuria). To recognize severe pediatric disease, look for blue veins extending directly towards the ear.
Yellow in the two Wind-Qi pools (behind the ears) indicates vomiting and regurgitation. If it is yellow-cyan, it is definitely Wind pathogen. Fright, crying, and restlessness with redness serve as verification. Hands resembling lotus flowers indicate attack by Guest Heat.
Redness on both cheeks indicates Heat in the Heart and Liver. There is endless crying and wailing. An enlightened physician need not worry; a dose of cooling medicine brings joy.
Slight redness on both zygomatic arches indicates Deficient Heat. Intense redness and heat indicate Phlegm accumulation stagnation. Cyan color indicates Spleen affected by Wind pathogen symptoms. For Cyan-Black Spleen Wind, medicines are ineffective.
Cyan color on both cheeks suggests parasitic disease. Yellow indicates Drooling (Zhi Yi). If cyan lines appear under the eyes (Jinkui pattern), after multiple instances of fright, there is no need to doubt.
Yellow at Chengjiang (CV24) indicates fright during eating. Red indicates the manifestation caused by Convulsive Wind. Vomiting/regurgitation with yellow color, or red, indicates Dysentery. One must carefully deduce and investigate.
