Treats wind-cold injury (Shangfeng), epidemic febrile diseases (Wenyi), body heat, drowsiness, coarse breathing, cough caused by obstruction of wind-heat and phlegm-cold, convulsive disease with tidal spasms (Jingfeng Chaochu), as well as gu poison (Gudu) and heatstroke. It can be taken after bathing; for robust children, it is suitable to administer regularly.
Tianzhu Huang (Calamina, *Lithomarge* - 1 liang) Xionghuang (Realgar, *Realgar* - processed by water levigation, 1 qian) Chensha (Cinnabar, *Cinnabaris*) Shexiang (Musk, *Moschus* - each separately ground, 0.5 liang) Tiannanxing (Arisaema Rhizome, *Arisaematis Rhizoma Praeparatum* - 4 liang, brewed in ox gallbladder during the twelfth lunar month, dried in shade for one hundred days; if unavailable, use fresh rhizome, remove skin and navel, cut into pieces and stir-fry until dry.)
Grind the above ingredients into fine powder. Mix with decoction of Gancao (*Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma*) to form pills the size of soap beans. Dissolve in warm water and take orally. For infants under one hundred days old, divide one pill into three or four doses; for five-month-old infants, two pills per dose; for adults, three to five pills per dose. It also treats leukorrhea in young unmarried women. For latent summerheat syndrome, chew one or two pills with a little salt and swallow with fresh water. In the twelfth lunar month, using snow water to decoct Gancao for mixing with the medicine is especially good. Another method: Soak Tiannanxing (*Arisaematis Rhizoma*) in Jiangshui (fermented rice water) or fresh water for three days until soft. Boil three to five times, remove while still soft, peel off the skin, retain only the white soft part, slice thinly, bake until dry, and stir-fry until yellow. Take 8 liang of this powder. Take 2.5 liang of Gancao (*Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma*), crush it, soak in two bowls of water overnight, and slowly boil down to half a bowl. Remove the dregs, then slowly sprinkle in the Tiannanxing powder while stirring slowly until the Gancao water is fully absorbed. Then add the remaining medicines.
Treats slow convulsive disease in children (Xiao'er Man Jing). Often, treatments using overly warm or hot natured drugs fail to resolve the convulsions but generate other heat symptoms; sometimes the original illness resolves but induces heat symptoms; there are many cases of acute convulsive disease. One must ask: How many days has the patient been ill? What was the cause? What medications have been used? Antidotal (detoxifying) medications can be used, and they are invariably effective. This formula is suitable.
Dayou Huangjuan (Soybean Sprout, *Sojae Semen Germinatum* - soaked in water until black soybeans sprout, then sun-dried) Banlangen (Isatis Root, *Isatidis Radix*) Guanzhong (Cyathulae Rhizoma / Osmundae Rhizoma, *Cyathulae Rhizoma* or *Osmundae Rhizoma*) Gancao (*Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma*) (stir-fried with honey, each 1 liang)
Grind the above four ingredients into fine powder. Take 0.5 to 1 qian per dose. Decoct in water, remove dregs, and drink. For severe cases, take 3 qian. Decoct in Jiangshui (fermented rice water) with a few drops of oil. It also treats vomiting of parasites; it can be taken at any time.
Treats acute and slow convulsive disease (Ji Man Jing Feng).
Dahuang (Rhubarb Root, *Rhei Radix et Rhizoma*) (steamed) Gancao (*Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma*) Banxia (Pinellia Tuber, *Pinelliae Rhizoma*) (washed in boiling water, sliced thinly, soaked in ginger juice overnight, baked dry, and stir-fried) Jinxingshi (Venus Stone, *Pyritum*) Yuyuliang (Yucheng Stone, *Haematitum*) Buhui Mu (Non-burning Wood, *Asbestum*) Qinggefen (Blue Clam Powder, *Concha Meretricis Cyprinae) Yinxingshi (Silver Star Stone, likely a mineral variant) Hanshuishi (Cold Water Stone, *Natrii Sulfas Crystalloides)*
Take equal parts of the above, grind together into fine powder. Add Longnao (Borneol, *Borneolum Syntheticum*) equivalent to "yi zi" (a traditional small weight measure), and grind again until uniform. Mix with fresh water to a dose of "yi zi" to 5 fen, adjusted according to the child's age and size. The Tongdu formula is an ancient prescription. Zhongyang (Qian Yi's courtesy name) added 3 branches of Gansong (Costus Root, *Saussureae Radix*), 1 qian of Huoxiang Ye Mo (Agastache Leaf Powder, *Agastachis Folium*), and 1 fen of Jinyashi (Golden Bud Stone, likely a mineral). He reduced the amount of Dahuang (*Rhei Radix et Rhizoma*) by half. It treats blood vomiting caused by drug toxicity, with miraculous efficacy.
