Mr. Mao pointed out the symptoms of middle-jiao deficiency-cold diarrhea in children: weak rumbling in the abdomen, slight coldness of the body, and abdominal distension. This condition arises from injury caused by consuming raw or cold food. For treatment, administer Xurong San (Cinnamon Twig and Frankincense Powder; see section on "All Diarrhea Types") and Tiaozhong Yin (Regulate Middle Decoction) until recovery is achieved (see section on "Stomach Qi Disharmony").
*Yingtong Baojian* records that pediatric cold diarrhea results from deficiency-cold of the Spleen and Stomach, leading to an inability to digest the five grains. The stool is unformed, accompanied by abdominal distension and diarrhea, with acidic-smelling gas due to internal accumulation.
*Culun Jing* prescribes Wenpi San (Warm the Spleen Powder) for treating infants and young children with watery diarrhea, dysentery, spleen cold, indigestion of milk, and frequent vomiting.
Ingredients: Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Lateralis Radix), Ganjiang (Dried Ginger), Gancao (Prepared Licorice Root) (each 0.5 liang, processed); Baizhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma) (1 liang).
Grind into fine powder. Take half a qian mixed with rice water on an empty stomach. Avoid fresh fish and toxic foods.
*Qianjin Fang* prescribes Lilu Wan (Veratrum Pill) for treating infants and young children with clear loose stools and dysentery.
Ingredients: Lilu (Veratri Radix) (2 fen), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma) (3 fen), Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Lateralis Radix) (1 fen, processed, skin and navel removed).
Grind these three ingredients into powder. Form pills the size of hemp seeds using honey. Take two pills with porridge water; effect is immediate.
*Qianjin Fang* Zeqi Zhuyu Tang (Euphorbia and Evodia Decoction): Treats sudden cold invasion in summer causing watery diarrhea as if pouring water; when limbs are chilled, high fever ensues. If fever persists for days and then transforms into generalized fullness, abdominal pain after about a month, with a faint and thin pulse. After one dose of this decoction, gradual calming of the mind can be expected.
Ingredients: Zeqi (Euphorbiae Thunbergianae Herba), Haizao (Sargassum), Qingmuxiang (Radix Aucklandiae), Wuzhuyu (Evodiae Fructus), Fuling (Poria), Baizhu (Processed Atractylodis Rhizoma), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) (each 2 fen for the first three, 3 fen for the next five); Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) (1 fen).
Chop the ten ingredients. Boil in four sheng of water to reduce to one and a half sheng. For infants aged 200 days to one year, take 2.5 he per dose; for children aged one to two years, take 4 he per dose.
*Qianjin Fang* Wenzhong Tang (Warm the Middle Decoction): Treats accumulated cold in summer due to excessive bathing, or when the nursing mother bathes in cold water and feeds the infant cold milk. Symptoms include high fever, sudden exposure to cool rain, watery stools, weak stomach, cyanotic complexion, cold flesh, sunken eyes, and dry heaving. Administer this formula first to regulate Stomach Qi; diarrhea will stop.
Ingredients: Ganjiang (Processed Dried Ginger), Houpo (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex, ginger-processed) (each 1 fen), Gancao (Honey-fried Licorice Root), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Guixin (Cinnamomi Ramulus) (each 3 fen), Fuling (Poria), Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Baizhu (Processed Atractylodis Rhizoma), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix) (each 2 fen).

Take Baiszhi (Halloysitum Rubrum) 0.5 liang, grind into powder, mix with white porridge, and feed on an empty stomach.
Tan Shi’s Jiaohong Wan (Pepper Red Pill) for pediatric watery diarrhea, and a formula for adults over fifty suffering from diarrhea:
