According to *Chao Shi Bing Yuan* (Source of Diseases in Chao's Work) regarding the syndrome of difficult breastfeeding in infants: Whenever a newborn is delivered, the midwife or attendant should immediately wipe and clean the infant's mouth with their hand upon seeing the baby emerge, preventing foul blood from entering the infant's mouth. This ensures the harmony of the infant's abdomen and prevents disease. If cleaning is not timely, foul blood and impure lochia may be swallowed into the abdomen, causing epigastric and abdominal fullness, shortness of breath, and an inability to suckle milk; this is termed "Nan Ru" (Difficult Breastfeeding). Furthermore, if the mother excessively consumes cold substances during pregnancy, cold qi enters the uterus, causing the fetus to become cold. After birth, the infant will suffer from abdominal pain and refuse to suckle; this is known as "Tai Han" (Fetal Cold), also called "Nan Ru".
*Xian Ren Shui Jian* (Immortal's Water Mirror) states: If an infant does not open its mouth within seven days after birth and cannot take milk, this prescription is suitable.
Three earthworms, ground with water; a small amount of Yaxiao (Mirabilite) should not be underestimated. A little Xionghuang (Realgar) must be used; one piece of Jinbo (Gold Leaf) divided into four doses. (Use half a tael per dose.) Regardless of the season, mix with cold water; a single drop entering the mouth can restore life. This prescription possesses the power of immortals, specifically capable of instantly rescuing newborns.
*Waitai Miyao* (Secret Essentials from the Imperial Library) records Liu's prescription for treating newborns who do not suckle.
Take two he of breast milk and one cun of scallion white (white part of the green onion), boil together for one boiling point, remove the scallion, and administer to the infant. The infant will then be able to suckle, with immediate effect. Alternatively, administer using clam juice.

*Taiping Shenghui Fang* Moxibustion Method: For newborns presenting with Jing Feng (Lockjaw/Neonatal Tetanus) within two to seven days after birth, characterized by inability to suckle and excessive crying. This is caused by external wind pathogens invading the navel, flowing along meridians to the Heart and Spleen organs, resulting in tongue stiffness, lip spasms, and inability to suckle. Pharmacological treatment rarely achieves complete cure; the primary approach is expelling external wind. Moxibustate Chengjiang (CV24) with seven moxa cones, located in the depression below the lower lip border. Next, moxibustate Jiache (ST6) bilaterally, seven moxa cones each, located posterior to the mandible angle below the ear, with moxa cone size resembling bird droppings.
*Taiping Shenghui Fang* Another Moxibustion Method: For infants with hoarse sounds in the throat and difficulty swallowing milk. Moxibustate Xuanji (RN21) with three moxa cones, located in the depression one cun below Tiantu (RN22), with moxa cone size resembling wheat grains.
