According to *Chao Shi Bing Yuan* (Source of Diseases by Master Chao) regarding the condition of blue lips in infants: When an infant's internal organ qi is disharmonious and blood deficiency allows cold pathogenic factors to invade, the lips will turn blue. There are also cases where internal organ heat causes sores on the lips, allowing wind-cold pathogens to enter. Even after the sores have healed, if the blood color does not recover, the lips remain blue.
*Xian Ren Shui Jian* (Immortal's Water Mirror) records: Infants within one hundred days of birth may present with unexplained blue lips and mouth, refusing to suckle or move. The Immortal Formula consists of: Da Lan (Isatis Root, dried in shade), Ling Xiao Hua (Crape Myrtle Flower), Ya Xiao (Mirabilite), and Shu Da Huang (Sichuan Rhubarb), each in equal parts. These are ground into a powder and formed into pills using sheep marrow. One pill is crushed and administered; the infant can then suckle. After my retirement, while traveling through the Sanjiang region of Huxiang, I long remembered this formula prepared by cultivators of cloud and water. I specifically used it to save over a thousand critically ill patients, all achieving remarkable efficacy. (Note: It may be suitable for heat syndromes but is difficult to use for cold syndromes.)
(Attached: Sores in the Throat)
Mr. Mao: Infants born with the condition of "Zha Sai Feng Yong" (Deceptive Cheek Wind Obstruction). Symptoms include high fever throughout the body, red swelling in beads along the ears, and fleshy tumors arising in the throat. This condition stems from accumulated heat that surges upward when severe. Treatment involves first administering a mild dose of *Duoming San* (Life-Rescuing Powder) to induce vomiting and purging of wind-phlegm (see section on Acute/Chronic Convulsions), followed by *Yunqi San* (Qi-Balancing Powder) to tonify (see section on Stomach Qi Disharmony), then *Zhusha Gao* (Cinnabar Ointment) combined with *Tian Zhu Huang San* (Indian Bamboo Sap Powder) (see section on Heat Syndromes), and applying *Cong Xian Gao* (Scallion Saliva Ointment) to the swollen cheeks (see section on Fontanelle Wind/Cold Damage). With such regulation, recovery occurs in three days. If malignant signs appear, there is fear of transmission to acute convulsions.
*Qian Jin Fang* (Essential Prescriptions Worth a Thousand Gold) treats sudden toxic swelling attaching to the throat and neck in infants, with high fever interfering with suckling:
Sheng Ma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), She Gan (Belamcandae Rhizoma), Da Huang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), each 1 liang.
These three ingredients are cut, boiled in 1.5 sheng of water to yield 0.8 sheng. An infant of one year divides this into three doses. The dregs are applied to the swollen area, warmed when cooled. For older children, adjust dosage as appropriate.
*Qian Jin Fang* Sheng Ma Tang (Cimicifuga Decoction): Treats infant sore throat; if toxic vapors are abundant causing pharyngeal obstruction, it also treats adults with throat discomfort:
Sheng Ma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Sheng Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), She Gan (Belamcandae Rhizoma), each 3 liang; Ju Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), 1 liang.
These four ingredients are cut, boiled in 6 sheng of water to yield 2 sheng. Strain and divide into three doses.

Gan Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma), Ban Xia (Pinelliae Rhizoma), in equal parts.
Grind into powder, apply a small amount to the tongue.
*Qian Jin Fang* Another Prescription:
Salt powder, apply with the tip of chopsticks to open the mouth, five times daily.
*Qian Jin Yi Fang* (Supplement to Essential Prescriptions) treats swelling in the throat and hanging flesh preventing eating:
First, insert a bamboo tube into the mouth, then thrust a heated iron rod through the bamboo tube. Healing occurs in no more than a few applications.

Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), She Gan (Belamcandae Rhizoma), Sheng Ma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), each 1 liang; Fu Zi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata), 0.5 liang (prepared, peeled); Bai Mi (White Honey), 4 liang.
Cut these five ingredients, first decoct in 4 liang of pig fat until it becomes an ointment that solidifies upon contact with the ground (ensure it is not too hot). Add the herbs, simmer gently until Fu Zi turns yellow. Strain, add honey, heat again to blend, and store in a vessel to cool. Take a piece the size of an almond kernel, hold in the mouth, swallow the juice 4-5 times daily until cured.
*Qian Jin Yi Fang* treats sore throat with difficulty breathing. If toxic vapors cause choking or attack the throat:
Gui Xin (Cinnamomi Cortex), 0.5 liang; Xing Ren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum), 1 liang (remove tips and skins, roast).
Grind into powder, wrap in cotton like a date, hold in mouth and swallow the juice.
