*Ying Tong Bao Jian* discusses that in infants and children, intestinal cold leads to the discharge of white pus accompanied by abdominal pain.
*Lu Xin Jing* records a formula for treating children with cold-toxin gan li (malnutrition dysentery), bai nong gan dian (a type of gan disease characterized by white purulent discharge), where the condition progressively worsens with emaciation and weakness, loss of appetite, and abdominal pain.
Qingmu Xiang (Aquilariae Lignum Resinatum, 1 fen) Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma, 0.5 liang)
Grind the above ingredients into fine powder, mix with honey to form pills the size of Chinese wolfberry seeds. For children over one year old, administer one pill with warm boiled water on an empty stomach. For three- to five-year-old children, administer two pills. The medicinal nature is hot; do not take excessively. Avoid raw and cold foods. *Sheng Hui Fang* records a treatment for cold-heat dysentery using equal parts of these two herbs.
*Ge Shi Zhou Hou Fang* Jizi Bing (Egg Cake) treats sudden onset of alternating cold and heat in infants and children during autumn and summer, abdominal distension, intermittent chills and fever, and abnormal leukorrhea.
Take one chicken egg and one pill of Hu Fen (Cerussa, Lead Carbonate). Crush it, sieve through silk, and combine with the egg yolk and white. Pound and grind together, then cook until done, similar to a regular egg cake. A one-year-old child should eat half a cake per meal, twice a day; no more than two cakes will suffice for recovery. For older children, double the dosage and make pills. This cake is suitable for frail children who cannot tolerate strong medicines.
*Wang Shi Shou Ji* treats pure pus-white dysentery in adults and children with miraculous effect. Zhi Fu Wan (Lard-Prepared Aconite Pill) formula.
Da Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata, 1 piece)
First, render lard (Porcine Adipose) to obtain approximately half a cup of oil. Dip the aforementioned Fuzi in the oil until it cracks, remove it, let it cool, peel off the skin and umbilical scar, and grind into a fine powder. Mix with jujube pulp to form pills. For adults, make them the size of Chinese wolfberry seeds; for children, the size of mung beans. Take 5–7 pills up to 15–20 pills each time, washed down with rice decoction. Take on an empty stomach before meals.
*Zhu Shi Jia Chuan* treats pediatric cold dysentery with white pus and colicky pain below the umbilicus.
Hezi Pi (Terminaliae Chebulae Pericarpium) Qingmu Xiang (Aquilariae Lignum Resinatum) (equal parts)
Grind the above ingredients into powder. Form pills the size of mung beans using glutinous rice paste. Administer five pills with rice decoction.
Ding Shifa, a physician from Changsha, transmitted a formula for treating pediatric gan li with abundant white pus and abdominal pain: Fuzi San (Aconite Powder).
Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata, processed, peeled, and de-eyed, 1 piece) Longgu (Fossilia Ossis Mammi) Chishizhi (Halloysit Rubra) (each 0.5 liang) Mituo Seng (Lithargyrum) Huang Dan (Minium) Hu Fen (Cerussa, stir-fried) Wumeiyu Gu (Sepiae Endoconcha, calcined to ash) Chi Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra) (each 1 fen)
