*Shenghui Fang*: The condition known as "jiao zhe" (frostbite of the feet) in infants is caused by their tender skin being invaded by external wind-cold pathogens affecting the Yongquan acupoint (Kidney 1, located on the sole of the foot). In this state, the qi and blood between the skin and flesh of the infant's feet interact with the wind-pathogen, resulting in muscle stiffness and obstruction of qi and blood circulation, preventing yang qi from reaching the extremities, thus causing this disease.
*Shenghui Fang* treats swelling, hardness, and pain in infants' frostbitten feet using the "Fei Zhan Fang" (Boiling Dip Decoction).
Chuanjiao (Sichuan Pepper, *Zanthoxyli Pericarpium*) (2 liang) Yan (Salt) (1 liang)
Decoct the above ingredients in 5 sheng of clear wine until reduced to 3 sheng. Frequently dip the affected area in the warm solution; stop when it cools down. Reheat and repeat the application three to seven times.
Another prescription from *Shenghui Fang*:
Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Root, *Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata*) (1 liang) Ganjiang (Dried Ginger Rhizome, *Zingiberis Rhizoma*) (2 liang)
Pound the above herbs into powder, sieve them, place them in a cotton bag, and fashion them into socks for the infant to wear.
Another prescription from *Shenghui Fang*:
Apply pig lard (Su Zhi) three to four times daily. *Jishi Jiachuan Fang* suggests applying concentrated rendered tallow.
*Zhoubing Yuanhou Lun · Infantile Frost-Burned Ulcer Syndrome*: In winter, cold qi damages the skin and flesh of infants. Cold qi clashes with qi and blood, causing stagnation and congestion, leading to ulcer formation. These ulcers are swollen and difficult to heal, potentially progressing to necrosis of skin and flesh, termed "dong lan chuang" (frost-burned ulcer).
*Qianjin Fang* treats frost-burned ulcers:
Take the hind trotter of a pig that has been hanging suspended, burn it at midnight, grind it finely, sieve it, and mix with pig lard for topical application. This formula is also suitable for infants.
*Qianjin Yifang* treats frostbite necrosis of the face, hands, and feet, and initial heat-induced pain due to exposure to cold and ice in winter:
Take wheat root nests, decoct to obtain a thick liquid, and soak and wash the hands and feet while hot. Three to five applications will lead to recovery.
*Qianjin Yifang* treats chapped and frostbitten hands and feet prone to shedding:
Jiaojiao (Sichuan Pepper, *Zanthoxyli Pericarpium*), Xiong (Sichuan Lovage Rhizome, *Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma*) (each 0.5 liang), Baizhi (Angelica Dahurica Root, *Angelicae Dahuricae Radix*), Fangfeng (Saposhnikovia Root, *Saposhnikoviae Radix*), Jiang (Ginger, *Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens*). Note: The text mentions "Yi cheng yan", likely a textual error or specific measurement context, but lists "one part each" for salt and others. Assuming standard proportions based on context: Salt (1 fen each for listed items).
Decoct the above five herbs in 4 sheng of water until concentrated. Apply or wash three to five times for recovery.
*Qianjin Yifang* treats frostbite of ten fingers threatening amputation:
Take 3 sheng of horse manure, boil until bubbling like sesame oil, soak the affected area, replace with fresh warm solution upon cooling. Recovery occurs within half a day.
*Zimu Milu* treats infantile frostbite:
Apply sparrow brain marrow to the affected area for immediate recovery.
Meng Shen's prescription for frostbite:
Take one male mouse newly dead on the Laba Festival (8th day of the 12th lunar month), fry in 1 sheng of oil until soft, strain out residues, and further reduce to form a ointment. Apply to frostbite and broken sores.
*Shenghui Fang* treats frostbite of ears in infants causing ulcers, itching, or pain, using Huangbai San (Phellodendron Powder):
Huangbai (Phellodendron Bark, *Phellodendri Chinensis Cortex*), Bailian (Belamcanda Rhizome, *Belamcandae Rhizoma*) (each 0.5 liang)
Pound the herbs, sieve finely into powder. First wash the ulcer with hot water, then mix with raw sesame oil for topical application.
*Shenghui Fang* treats frostbite of feet in infants causing ulcers, itching, or pain:
Xiaomai (Wheat Grain, *Tritici Fructus*), Rangcao (Rice Straw, *Oryzae Sativa Culm*) (three handfuls)
Decoct the above ingredients in 1 sheng of vinegar and 2 sheng of water until reduced to 2 sheng. Strain. Wash both feet with the solution at a temperature similar to body heat; frequent washing at night is effective.
*Shenghui Fang* treats frostbite of hands in infants causing chapping and ulcers, using Bailian San (Belamcanda Powder):
Bailian (Belamcanda Rhizome, *Belamcandae Rhizoma*) (powder, 3 fen), Baiji (Chinese Tussilago Rhizome, *Bletillae Rhizoma*) (powder, 0.5 liang), Sheng Youma (Raw Sesame Seeds, *Sesami Fructus*) (2 he, freshly pounded)
Grind the herbs uniformly together. Take one steamed radish, mash it thoroughly, mix with the herb powder, and adjust with wine to a thin paste consistency. First wash with urine from a young boy, then apply the mixture for efficacy.
*Yangsheng Biyong* treats chronic non-healing frostbite:
Grind Malan flower seeds into powder, decoct in water, and wash with the hot liquid.
Zhang Huan treats infantile frostbite caused by improper care by wet nurses in winter, where cold qi damages the skin and clashes with qi and blood, causing swelling and difficult-to-heal ulcers, commonly known as frostbite, occurring on ears, hands, or feet. Huangbai Gao (Phellodendron Ointment):
Huangbai (Phellodendron Bark, *Phellodendri Chinensis Cortex*), Bailian (Belamcanda Rhizome, *Belamcandae Rhizoma*) (each 1 liang powdered), Baiji (Chinese Tussilago Rhizome, *Bletillae Rhizoma*) (powder, 0.5 liang), Sheng Youma (Raw Sesame Seeds, *Sesami Fructus*) (2 he, freshly pounded to extract juice)
Grind the herbs uniformly. Add one steamed radish and one cup of good wine, mash thoroughly into an ointment. Apply a small amount after first washing the affected area with urine from a young boy, then apply the medicine according to the lesion.
