Pediatric Red Roaming Erysipelas (Chiyou Dandu) is caused by internal stagnation of Heart Fire, where Heat collides with Blood. It may originate from the limbs or erupt on the head, face, chest, or back, wandering up and down. The affected area is hot as fire, pain is unbearable, and the color is red like cinnabar, hence the name "Dandu" (Erysipelas/Red Poison). Cases where the toxin spreads from the abdomen to the limbs are easy to treat; cases where it sinks from the limbs into the abdomen are difficult to treat. The method for treating erysipelas is to first use Acrid-Cool Exterior-Releasing methods to gradually dissipate the toxin before applying external plasters; if one does not resolve the toxin first but hastily applies external treatments, it will inevitably force the toxin into the abdomen, leading to untreatable conditions. Children over one year old are easy to treat; those under one year old are difficult to treat. If treated correctly, regardless of age, they can be cured. I once treated a case of Fire Erysipelas in an infant within or around 100 days old, starting from below the scrotum. Following the correct method, after three days, the scrotal skin shed like a shell, and the child recovered.
For the ten types of pediatric erysipelas, if left untreated for three days, the toxin attacking the intestines and stomach becomes untreatable. One must identify each type individually and treat according to the specific formula, ensuring nearly perfect success.
In all cases of treating erysipelas, it is appropriate to first administer Fangfeng Shengma Tang (Saposhnikovia and Cimicifuga Decoction) to resolve toxicity and release the exterior. Subsequently, use magnetic needle pricking to bleed, so that the toxin disperses with the blood. This method is extremely effective and swift, with 100% accuracy.
Fangfeng Shengma Tang: Treats all ten types of erysipelas generally.
North Saposhnikovia Root (Beifangfeng), Green Cimicifuga Rhizome (Lvshengma), Black Gardenia Seed (Heizhiren), Large Ophiopogon Tuber (Damaidong), Schizonepeta Spike (Jingjiesui), Huai Akebia Stem (Huaimutong), Kudzu Root (Fengange), Southern Mint Leaf (Nanbohe), Moist Scrophularia Root (Runxuanshen), and Bullace Seed (Niubangzi) (each 1 qian);
Powdered Licorice Root (Fengangcao) (0.5 qian).
Ten stalks of Juncus Effusus pith (Dengxin), decocted in water, taken while hot. If constipation occurs, add Rheum Palmatum (Dahuang) to promote bowel movement.
Porcelain Needle Pricking Method: Select fine porcelain, gently break it, and take one sharp fragment. Split the tip of a chopstick, horizontally clamp the porcelain needle fragment, exposing the sharp edge outside, and tie it tightly with thread. Position the porcelain needle edge directly against the erysipelas lesion. Use another chopstick to gently tap the chopstick holding the porcelain needle, causing blood to flow out naturally. Multiple pricks are better. Once the toxic blood is fully expelled, immediate results are seen.
If treating erysipelas without using pricking to remove bad blood, relying solely on external plasters, fewer than one in ten patients will survive.
