For treating gan gangrene (characterized by foul odor, rotting, and bleeding), take three red dates, remove pits, fill them with finely ground Mingxionghuang (Realgar, *Realgar*), place them on a new tile, roast in fire until "preserving nature," grind into powder, and apply topically.
Another prescription: Fenghuangyi (Chicken Eggshell Membrane), ensuring it has not touched water, bake until yellow, add a small amount of Kufan (Calcined Alum, *Alumen Ustums*), grind together into a fine powder and apply.
The *Classic* states: The pharynx (Yanhou) is the pathway for food and drink; the larynx (Houtong) is the passage for qi to ascend and descend. It also states: When Yin and Yang qi become knotted, it is called Houbi (throat obstruction/swelling). Generally, the pharynx connects to the stomach tube, primarily receiving food and drink, located posteriorly; the larynx connects to the lung tube, exclusively governing respiration, located anteriorly. Together, they are the vital hub of the entire body. If heat toxins accumulate in the chest and diaphragm, generating wind-phlegm that stagnates and fails to disperse, manifesting in the throat and pharynx, although there are many disease names, they are all essentially due to heat toxins. One must clear and resolve quickly; delay leads to incurable danger. For mild cases, Ganjie Tang (Licorice and Platycodon Decoction); for severe cases, Huadu Tang (Detoxification Decoction).
If throat pain occurs due to smallpox, it is caused by toxic vapors attacking upward; use Modified Ganjie Tang.
If sores form in the throat preventing suckling, use Huadu Tang.
If a child is choked by bone fragments, and the bones are large and difficult to swallow, use a goose feather to stimulate the throat to induce vomiting; if the bones are small, treat using formulas from Hai Shang (likely referring to external or folk remedies).
