Pancchang Qi pain (abdominal colic due to cold qi) results from cold pathogenic factors clashing within the intestines, manifesting as curvature of the waist, refusal to nurse, and furrowed brows. Treatment should employ Doukou San (Cardamom Powder) to alleviate pain and warm the middle jiao, combined with the external treatment method of moxibustion/warming the navel, which yields significant efficacy.
[Note] All cases of Pancchang Qi pain are caused by invasion of cold pathogens. The Liver and Kidney reside in the lower jiao; therefore, pain causes the waist to curve. It is appropriate to treat primarily with Baidoukou San. The external application of warming the navel acts very rapidly.
Baidoukou San
Ingredients: Bai Doukou (Amomi Fructus Rotundus), Sharen (Amomi Fructus), Qingpi (Exocarpium Citri Reticulatae Viride, stir-fried with vinegar), Chenpi (Exocarpium Citri Reticulatae), Zhi Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparata), Xiangfum (Rhizoma Cyperi Preparatus), Peng Ezhu (Rhizoma Curcumae Longae) (all in equal proportions).
Grind into powder. Take one qian per dose, mixed with decoction of Zi Su (Perilla Leaf).
Warming the Navel Method
Ingredients: Dan Douchi (Sojaes Semen Preparatum), Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens, chopped, 2 qian each), Congbai (Allii Fistulosi Bulbus, 5 stalks), Yan Shi (Sodium Chloride, 1 liang).
Stir-fry together until hot, place on the navel, and apply heat (ironing/moxibustion technique).
Infants suffer from painful eyes that are difficult to open, with redness and ulceration of the eyelid margins, caused by fetal heat attacking upwards. Internal administration of Dihuang Tang clears heat, while external application of Zhenjin San brightens the eyes immediately.
[Note] "Mulan" (eye ulceration/blepharitis) refers to redness and ulceration of the eyelid margins, accompanied by pain and itching that make opening the eyes difficult. This occurs because heat toxins accumulated in the womb attack the eyes after birth. Internal use of Dihuang Tang clears heat, and external application of Zhenjin San cures the condition naturally.
Sheng Dihuang Tang (See formula under "Eye Inability to Open")

Swelling at the upper part of the throat is called Xuanyong (Hanging Abscess), caused by fetal toxin and heat rushing upwards. The method requires puncturing the swelling, wiping with salt water, and applying Rusheng San, which is effective.
[Note] Any swelling rising in the upper interior of the throat, resembling a reed husk filled with water, is named Xuanyong (Lutuo refers to reed shoots). This is due to upward attack of fetal toxins. One must wrap cotton around a long needle, leaving the tip exposed, to puncture it and drain green, yellow, or red fluids. If not resolved, puncture again the next day. After puncturing, rinse the mouth with salt water and apply Rusheng San or Yizi San to the affected area.
