黄胆湿热郁蒸成，遍身皆黄及目睛，阳黄色亮身多热，阴黄色暗冷如冰。
【注】黄胆一证，乃湿热郁久，外发肌肤而然也。其候遍身面目皆黄，甚则深黄，面
如烟熏之状。其中又有阴阳之别∶如面红、口渴、尿赤、色亮、身热者，乃脾家湿热，此
阳黄也；口不渴而色暗黄，身冷如冰者，乃脾肾寒湿，此阴黄也。治者宜分别施治。
阳黄无汗宜疏散，茵陈麻黄能发汗，腹满便秘茵陈攻，表里无证茵苓善。
【注】阳黄一证，原因湿热而成，治者当详审之。如表实无汗，宜外发其汗，茵陈麻
黄汤主之，使黄从表解也；里实二便秘涩，腹满者，宜茵陈蒿汤下之，使黄从里解也；若
表有汗，里不便秘腹满，是表里无证，不可汗、下，惟利小便，宜用茵陈五苓散，使黄从水道利之则愈。

水煎，加黄酒少许服之。
【方歌】儿发阳黄身无汗，茵陈麻黄汤极便，麻黄茵陈各等分，量儿煎服有奇验。
茵陈蒿汤
茵陈蒿 川大黄 栀子
引用灯心，水煎服。
【方歌】里实须用茵陈汤，栀子茵陈生大黄，灯心为引水煎服，便利黄消体泰康。
茵陈五苓散
茵陈蒿 赤苓 猪苓 泽泻 白术（土炒）肉桂

【方歌】茵陈五苓治黄病，利水除湿有奇功，术苓泽泻猪苓桂，茵陈加入便自清。
Jaundice is formed by the stagnation and steaming of damp-heat, resulting in yellowing of the entire body and the eyes. Yang jaundice presents with a bright color and often accompanied by fever; Yin jaundice presents with a dull color and a sensation of coldness like ice.
[Note] This syndrome of jaundice arises from damp-heat stagnating for a long time and manifesting externally on the skin and muscles. The symptoms include yellowing of the whole body and face, and in severe cases, a deep yellow color with a complexion resembling smoke staining. There is a distinction between Yin and Yang: if the face is red, there is thirst, dark urine, bright skin color, and body heat, this is damp-heat in the Spleen, known as Yang jaundice; if there is no thirst, the color is dull yellow, and the body feels cold as ice, this is cold-dampness in the Spleen and Kidney, known as Yin jaundice. Practitioners should treat them differently.
For Yang jaundice without sweating, dispersing methods are appropriate; Yinchen Mahuang Decoction can induce sweating. If accompanied by abdominal fullness and constipation, Yinchen Hao Tang should be used to purge. If there are no exterior or interior excess syndromes, Yinchen Wuling San is effective.
[Note] The cause of Yang jaundice is damp-heat; practitioners must examine it carefully. If there is exterior excess with no sweat, it is appropriate to induce sweating from the exterior, using Yinchen Mahuang Decoction as the primary formula, allowing the jaundice to resolve through the surface. If there is interior excess causing difficulty in urination and defecation with abdominal fullness, it is appropriate to use Yinchen Hao Tang to purge, allowing the jaundice to resolve from within. If there is sweating at the exterior and no constipation or abdominal fullness at the interior, indicating no exterior-interior excess syndromes, sweating and purging methods should not be used. Instead, promoting urination is the only option, using Yinchen Wuling San to allow the jaundice to be eliminated via the urinary pathway, leading to recovery.
Yinchen Mahuang Decoction (Cinnamon Twig and Yinchen Decoction)
Herbs: Yinchen Hao (Artemisiae Scopariae Herba), Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba)
Preparation: Decoct in water, add a small amount of Huangjiu (Yellow Wine) and take orally.
[Formula Verse] When children develop Yang jaundice without sweat, Yinchen Mahuang Decoction is very convenient; equal parts of Mahuang and Yinchen are used, and decocting according to the child's age yields miraculous results.
Yinchen Hao Tang (Yinchen Hao Decoction)
Herbs: Yinchen Hao (Artemisiae Scopariae Herba), Chuan Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), Zhizi (Gardeniae Fructus)
Guide Herb: Dengxincao (Junci Medulla)
Preparation: Decoct in water and take orally.
[Formula Verse] For interior excess, Yinchen Tang must be used; Zhizi, Yinchen, and raw Dahuang are combined. With Dengxincao as the guide, decocted in water, once bowel movements become smooth and jaundice disappears, the body becomes healthy and comfortable.
Yinchen Wuling San (Yinchen Five-Ling Powder)
Herbs: Yinchen Hao (Artemisiae Scopariae Herba), Chiling (Poria Cocos with Red Bark), Zhuling (Polyporus), Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, stir-fried with soil), Rougui (Cinnamomi Cortex)
Guide Herb: Dengxincao (Junci Medulla)
Preparation: Decoct in water and take orally.
