General Overview
Various types of stranguria (strangury) in children are caused by wind-cold invading the body, or by damp-heat moving downward and entering the Bladder, resulting in frequent urination without control, obstruction and stagnation of the urinary pathway, difficulty in voiding with continuous dribbling, and even complete blockage, causing constant pain. However, it is essential to differentiate between cold and heat patterns, and between lithiasis (stone stranguria) and blood stranguria, treating each according to its specific manifestations. Once the urinary pathway is unobstructed, stranguria will heal spontaneously.
Cold Stranguria
When cold qi from children invades the Bao Zhong (bladder/lower jiao area), causing coldness in the lower jiao, cold stranguria results. Symptoms include urinary retention, unbearable distending pain, continuous dribbling, and dull pain in the lower abdomen. It should be treated with Wuling San (Five-Ingredient Poria Pill) with added Cinnamon Twig (Rougui) and Fennel Seed (Xiaohuixiang), which yields miraculous effects.
Heat Stranguria
Accumulation of heat in the Bladder leads to heat stranguria. Symptoms include inability to urinate, continuous dribbling with astringent pain. Shizi Daochi San (Ten-Ingredient Guide-to-the-Heart Decoction) is effective for this condition. If accompanied by lower abdominal fullness, pain radiating to the umbilicus, and constipation, Bazheng San (Eight-Ingredient Polygala Decoction) should be administered immediately without delay.
Lithiasis Stranguria (Stone Stranguria)
Long-term accumulation of damp-heat in the Bladder leads to stone stranguria. Urine is passed resembling sand or stones, accompanied by pain in the urethra. This condition is akin to a kettle that has been heated for a long time, forming white scale at the bottom. For mild cases, Kuizi San (Abelmoschus Seed Powder) is indicated; for severe cases, Bazheng San (Eight-Ingredient Polygala Decoction) may be used.
Blood Stranguria
Blood stranguria arises primarily from heart-heat injuring the blood level, with heat qi transmitting to the Bao Zhong. Over time, blood appears in the urine along with pain in the urethra. For mild pain, Xiaoji Yin (Small Thistle Decoction) is indicated; for severe urethral pain, Wulin San (Five-Stranguria Powder) should be used.
General Overview
The symptoms of headache in children vary and must be differentiated as either exterior or interior. Interior headaches are due to steaming by internal heat; exterior headaches are caused by external contraction of wind-cold. If wind-cold obstructs the exterior, the treatment method should be dispersing and diffusing; if caused by internal heat steaming, clearing and resolving methods should be employed.
Wind-Cold Headache
Wind-cold headache belongs to the pathogenesis of the Taiyang Channel (Taiyang Meridian). Symptoms include pain extending to the vertex and connecting to the sides of the forehead, occurring intermittently, accompanied by aversion to cold, absence of sweating, and fever. The treatment method should induce sweating, primarily using Qingkong Gao (Clear the Crown Ointment/Decoction). For severe pain, add Asarum (Xixin); for excessive heat with constipation, add Rhubarb (Dahuang).
Internal Heat Headache
Internal heat headache belongs to the Yangming Stomach Channel. It occurs because children consume rich and sweet foods without restraint, causing stomach fire to flare upward. Upon onset, symptoms include dry nose, painful eyes, pain extending from the head down to the teeth and cheeks, with no fixed timing. First, clear the fire using Jiawei Chatiao San (Modified Tea-Powdering Decoction). If constipation is present, add Rhubarb (Dahuang) to purge.
