In infants within one month of birth, symptoms include shaking fists with head deviation, perioral contraction (tightening of the mouth), and inability to suckle milk. The etiology is residual fetal toxin caused by the mother's consumption of pungent and hot foods during pregnancy. Treatment primarily employs Tuiliu Fu (Clearing the Six Fu Organs) and Er Ren Shang Ma (Two Persons Mounting the Horse). If perioral contraction is present,
prepare Tian Nan Xing (Arisaema Rhizome) powder after removing the skin and umbilical scar, mix with a small amount of Zhang Nao (Borneol), and apply to the gums to open the mouth. If upon birth the infant presents with red eyes, perioral contraction, clenched fists, head tilting left or right, and inability to cry out due to fright, this is caused by the mother's consumption of fried and roasted foods. Add Er Long Xi Zhu (Two Dragons Playing with a Pearl) and Tian Men Hu Kou Zhou (Heavenly Gate, Tiger's Mouth, Elbow) techniques.
Perioral contraction with foaming, abdominal hardness, head deviation, spasms, clenched fists, omphalocele (everted navel), and silent crying. The cause is wind invasion following umbilical cord cutting. There is a tendon originating from below the lower abdomen extending straight up to the navel; if this tendon reaches the navel, the condition is incurable. If it has not reached the navel, urgently apply Deng Huo (Moxibustion with lamp wick) three times on Bai Hui (GV20) to block the pathogenic factor, which can save the life. Apply fire moxibustion seven times on Qi Men (Navel Gate). Perform Da Zhi Si Jiao (Four Jiaos of the Thumb) seven times, Yong Quan (KI1) seven times. If the navel is not everted, perform Shen Men (Spirit Gate) once. Tu San Guan (Pushing Three Gates) is indicated to induce sweating as the primary method. If the navel is everted, it is untreatable.
Profuse epistaxis (nosebleed), red lips, abnormal sclera, flaccid body, and preference for cold food. The cause is excessive Heart Fire. Ming Yue Tian He (Bright Moon Clearing the River) is the primary technique, combined with Tu Liu Fu, Qing Xin Jing (Clearing the Heart Meridian), Tui Shen Shui (Pushing Kidney Water), Fen Yin Yang (Dividing Yin and Yang), Fei Jin Zou Qi (Flying Metal Moving Qi), Tao Wu Zhi Jie (Digging Five Finger Joints), Tian Men Hu Kou Zhou, and other methods. Administer Yan Shou Dan (Longevity Pill) in a dose of 3 fen.
Clenched fists of hands and feet, random grasping of limbs, spasmodic jumping, facial asymmetry, and eye deviation. The cause is fright induced by loud noises. Calming the Spirit is required, primarily by Qia Wei Ling (Pinching Wei Ling). Also pinch Zhong Chong (PC9) on the Heart Meridian, Qia Si Heng Wen (Pinching Four Horizontal Creases), Qing Fei Jing (Clearing the Lung Meridian), Fen Yin Yang, Yun Ba Gua (Moving Eight Trigrams), Yun Wu Jing (Moving Five Meridians), Lao Ming Yue (Scooping Bright Moon), Qing Tian He (Clearing the Heavenly River), Yuan Hou Zhai Guo (Monkey Plucking Fruit), and Qing Xin Jing. Use a large pond snail: remove its operculum, place 3 fen of Bing Pian (Borneol) inside, wait until it dissolves into water, and use a tea spoon to introduce the liquid into the infant's navel. Even if the infant dies from fright immediately, they will revive instantly and be cured.
Eyes rolling upward showing whites, inability to suckle milk, flaccid limbs, and irregular gasping respiration. The cause is long-standing internal injury leading to gradual depletion of Stomach Qi. Bu Pi Tu (Tonifying Spleen Earth) is the primary method, combined with Fen Yin Yang, Yun Ba Gua, Bu Fei Jing (Tonifying Lung Meridian), Tui San Guan, Rou Xiao Tian Xin (Kneading Little Heavenly Heart), Zuo Cuo Mo (Rubbing and Massaging), Chi Feng Yao Tou (Red Phoenix Shaking Head). If manual therapy is ineffective, Tu San Guan must be applied again to tonify Yuan Qi (Primary Qi) as the main objective.
