Malaria and dysentery are two conditions frequently encountered by the general public. There are many discussions but few accurate statements, and many prescriptions but few effective results. It is unknown that malaria and dysentery often occur during the transition between summer and autumn. The months of summer belong exclusively to the Spleen Earth (Spleen Earth). At Zi hour (11 PM - 1 AM), Yang Qi dissipates to its extreme, with latent Yin residing internally. People suffer from heat on the skin but are unaware of the coldness inside. Thus, they seek cool breezes and drink cold water to counteract it. Earth inherently fears cold; by introducing cold into it, food becomes stuck in the Spleen and cannot be transformed, while phlegm knots in the Spleen and cannot resolve. Phlegm is saliva produced from the five flavors, transformed by Wind and Fire. Once the cool air arrives, malaria disease emerges. A wiry and solid pulse indicates food retention; occurring once a day, it is mild but difficult to cure. A wiry and slippery pulse indicates phlegm-dampness; occurring every three days, it is severe but easier to cure. Regarding dysentery, it is often said that red belongs to Heat and white belongs to Cold. However, this is also due to internal injury from raw and cold foods, so Summer-Heat and Dampness follow. Injury to the Blood level results in redness; injury to the Qi level results in whiteness. When both Qi and Blood are injured, red and white mix. The Classics state: Regulating the blood leads to natural recovery of the stool, as blood returns to the meridians and does not flow recklessly; lifting the Qi eliminates tenesmus, as Qi sinking causes tenesmus. This is an unchangeable definitive conclusion. If administered cooling agents, it will inevitably lead to inability to eat (Jinkou) and loose bowels (Huachang), leading towards death. Among children, one-tenth are cured by medicine, while nine-tenths are cured by Tuina (Pediatric Massage). Malaria is essentially a residual malaria syndrome, and dysentery is a condition characterized by fluid discharge. The root is deep and the condition is serious; without mastery of this field, it is not easy to cure.
There are four types of pediatric malaria. First is Malaria, occurring every two or three days, accompanied by mental confusion, caused by phlegm knotting in the Spleen Earth. With a wiry and slippery pulse, emesis is indicated. The Tuina method should include Pushing Lung Meridian, Pushing San Guan, Rotating Ba Gua, Dividing Yin and Yang, Pinching Si Heng Wen, Rubbing Tian Shu, Pinching Nei Jian Shi, Monkey Plucking Fruit, Grasping Lie Que, and Walking/Crubbing Massage. Second is Food Malaria, occurring once a day, with abdominal distension and vomiting, caused by food retention in the Spleen Earth. Purging is indicated. The Tuina method should include Pushing San Guan, Pushing Pi Tu, Tonifying Kidney Water, Rotating Ba Gua, Dividing Yin and Yang, Tian Men Hu Kou to Elbow, Rubbing Zhong Wan, and Pressing String Walking/Crubbing Massage. Third is Dan Malaria (Cao Malaria), occurring at night, also known as Evil Malaria. Caused by playing near water and contracting dew, wind, rain, and cold, sweating is indicated. The Tuina method should include Pushing San Guan, Pushing Lung Meridian, Pinching Finger Joints on the Back of Hand, Pinching Heng Wen, One Cut of Wei Ling Point. Prescription: Single garlic clove ground into a cake, applied to Nei Jian Shi point, moxibustion performed for one Zhu continuously. Fourth is Deficiency Malaria, where previous symptoms persist for one or two months, becoming deficiency malaria. Caused by dual deficiency of Qi and Blood, treatment focuses on Tonifying Middle and Boosting Qi. The Tuina method should include Pushing San Guan, Tonifying Kidney Water, Hu Kou to Elbow, Two Persons Mounting Shang Ma (One Cut of Wei Ling Point). Secret instructions for stopping malaria via Tuina: In the early stage, only add Shaoshang point to the aforementioned sweating prescription for cure. If chronic, the method should include Pushing San Guan, Pushing Lung Meridian, Dividing Yin and Yang, Rotating Ba Gua, Tonifying Pi Tu, Tian Men Hu Kou to Elbow. Prescription uses Shen Miao methods of Zhuyou Ke (Ritualistic Medicine).
