Green corresponds to the Liver. Red corresponds to the Heart. White corresponds to the Lung. Black corresponds to the Kidney. Yellow corresponds to the Spleen. If the complexion is green mixed with red, it indicates disease involving both the Liver and the Heart. A green complexion indicates Phlegm-Fluid (Tan-Yin). A red complexion indicates Heat pathogen. A white complexion indicates Cold pathogen. A black complexion indicates failure of Kidney Qi. A yellow complexion indicates injury to Spleen Qi. Heat manifestations primarily reflect Hyperactive Heart Fire. Crying primarily reflects Internal Stirring of Wind in the Liver. Laughing excessively primarily reflects Phlegm-Dampness in the Spleen. Wailing primarily indicates injury to Lung Qi. Aversion to cold primarily indicates Dampness in the Stomach. Somnolence primarily indicates Deficiency of Kidney Qi. The song states: A yellow complexion signifies Rickets disease (Gan Ji); green and black complexions signify Convulsive Disease (Jing Feng). Vomiting and diarrhea with a yellowish-white complexion indicate Cold Damage (Shang Han), definitely presenting with purple-red hues. Patients with Dysentery (Li Ji) have furrowed brows; children with Convulsive Disease have red cheeks. When thirsty, the lips appear reddish; when heat is severe, the eyes are blurred.
The Qi and color at Tianzhong point (located at the center of the forehead) being clear and bright means that even if illness occurs, it will be mild. A round head and prominent bone structure indicate a normal or healthy state. An scrotum resembling a lychee fruit indicates longevity. Red eyes indicate Heat in the Liver home. A blue-green nose indicates Cold invading the Lungs. Foul-smelling and rotten teeth indicate unbearable toxicity; one must examine whether there is Heat in the Kidney Meridian. Tears flowing from both eyes, dryness, and itching indicate that Evil Wind has already invaded the Liver. Sores filling the mouth indicate blazing Toxic Heat; all five Zang and six Fu organs can form Gan syndrome. Cold cough indicates Lung Qi injury combined with Dampness; wind-induced cough is due to Heart Heat, leaving no room for doubt. Injury to the Intestines and Bowels leads to frequent diarrhea and dysentery, caused by consuming cold foods resulting in Food Stagnation and Spleen Deficiency. Watery diarrhea that is cold and accompanied by edema indicates Water Accumulation in the intestines causing hollow sounds. Severe Gan syndrome leads to dribbling dysuria, spiritual dullness, and listlessness. Inability to pass stool and urine indicates extreme Heat. Swelling of the Small Intestine causes pathology in the external genitalia; Cold Qi transmits to the Bladder. Dietary injury and consumption of cold foods lead to hoarseness. Heart Heat transmitting and becoming disease; eating fish, meat, mutton, and salty foods causes saliva to spread uncontrollably, leading to frequent coughing and wheezing. Empty Heat in the Lungs causes harm; swelling of the anus indicates Heat accumulation in the intestines, formed by stagnation from consuming cold foods. Blood in the stool indicates Heat pathogen remaining in the intestines. Huoluan (Colic with vomiting and diarrhea) is caused by disharmony of Yin and Yang, where Qi mechanism above and below is bitter and obstructed; stagnant and rebellious Qi must be harmonized. Disharmony of Yin and Yang leads to profuse spontaneous sweating; distinguishing and regulating Yin and Yang must not be mistaken. Heat lingering within the Zang organs without resolving inevitably causes thirst, restlessness, and discomfort. Bloody diarrhea with Heat pain makes the body uncomfortable. Chronic dysentery becomes heavy and stifling. Wind-Heat at the Guibao pulse point; umbilical rot is attributed to [unclear term "An Gui", likely referring to etiology or specific location, omitted as non-standard entity]. Invasion by Guest Wind and cold water; Heart Heat causes sleep-talking and fright. Cold extremities of hands and feet cause Convulsive Disease to become severe. Thrush (E Kou) and stiff tongue indicate Heart Heat. Cold sweat, night crying, and sleep-talking indicate Heart Fright due to startling. Regarding these symptoms: Qi rebellion, dribbling dysuria, and crying during urination indicate Body Heat, intestinal steaming, and vigorous Liver Qi. Spleen Deficiency leads to indigestion of grains and food; Stomach Cold leads to difficulty ingesting drinks and food. Abnormal eye movement, Qi Deficiency, and severe weak vomiting indicate Slow Spleen Convulsion (Man Pi Jing); the facial complexion lacks blood color, and Phlegm fills the throat. Slow Convulsive Disease causes worry; dryness, thirst, and Blood Heat remain in the Zang organs; the abdomen is large, the face is green-yellow and emaciated, and Heat Gan attacks the four limbs. Physicians must determine Deficiency and Excess; tonification and purgation rely entirely on treatment principles.
