Sneezing in infants within the first month is known as Ma Ya (Horse Teeth). This occurs because Qi and Blood are weak and cannot subdue the toxin, causing Heart Fire to flare upward, resulting in white granules appearing all over the gums. Puncture with a needle, wipe and wash with water using a Maoqing cloth, then apply gold ink afterward; it will not grow again. It is advisable to administer a small amount of Yanshou Dan (Longevity Pill), which will lead to recovery.
Infantile fetal fire attacking the Heart causes white spots in the mouth, resembling millet grains, named Ru E (Milk Goose). Alternatively, white foam may fill the mouth and cover the tongue, obstructing the palate, resembling E Kou (Goose Mouth), where the mouth remains open and cannot close, voice is lost, and suckling and eating are difficult. All these are caused by heat toxins attacking upward. The treatment method should include Fen Yin Yang (Separating Yin and Yang), Yun Ba Gua (Moving the Eight Trigrams), Qing Xin Jing (Clearing the Heart Meridian), and Lao Ming Yue (Fishing for the Bright Moon). It is advisable to administer Yanshou Dan (Longevity Pill).
The meridians of the Spleen connect to the sides of the tongue, the meridians of the Liver connect to the root of the tongue, and the meridians of the Heart connect to the base of the tongue. When the Three Jiaos are affected by fetal toxins and attack upward, a second tongue-like structure appears under the tongue, named Chong She (Double Tongue). If the tongue swells and becomes stiff like wood, it is named Mu She (Wood Tongue). Alternatively, the tongue may curl up, extend excessively, or become swollen and full; this indicates excessive Wind-Heat interfering with suckling and eating. Or sores may form and rupture, accompanied by damp-heat in the Stomach and high fever in the four limbs, which are signs of this condition. The treatment method should include Fen Yin Yang (Separating Yin and Yang), Yun Ba Gua (Moving the Eight Trigrams), Qing Xin Jing (Clearing the Heart Meridian), Qing Pi Jing (Clearing the Spleen Meridian), Qing Gan Jing (Clearing the Liver Meridian), Lao Ming Yue (Fishing for the Bright Moon), and Qing Tian He (Clearing the Heavenly River). It is advisable to administer Yanshou Dan (Longevity Pill).
Night crying has four types: Fetal Alarm Night Crying occurs when evil fire enters the Heart; since the Heart and Small Intestine are exterior-interior paired, night crying accompanied by enuresis belongs to this type. Crying more intensely with irritability upon seeing light indicates severe Heart Heat. Crying upon exposure to cold indicates Han Shan (Cold Hernia). A purplish-black complexion, Qi stagnation resembling anger, apparent fearfulness, and startle jumps during sleep indicate night crying caused by inadvertently offending spiritual entities. The treatment method should include Fen Yin Yang (Separating Yin and Yang), Yun Ba Gua (Moving the Eight Trigrams), Yun Wu Jing (Moving the Five Meridians), Lao Ming Yue (Fishing for the Bright Moon), Qing Tian He (Clearing the Heavenly River), and clearing the Heart Meridian. For cold patterns, push the Three Yangs. Use Deng Xin Cao (Juncus Effusus Herb) burned to ash, rubbed onto the mother's nipple for the infant to suckle; the crying will stop immediately.
Various fevers have different causes; one must distinguish between deficiency/excess and cold/heat. For example, Tai Re (Fetal Heat): between three days and a month after birth, the infant keeps eyes closed with a red face, swollen eyelids, frequent groaning, incessant crying, occasional fright and irritability, and yellow urine. This is due to receiving maternal heat toxins during gestation. If not treated promptly, it may develop into E Kou (Goose Mouth), Chong She (Double Tongue), Mu She (Wood Tongue), Chi Zi Dan Liu (Red-Purple Carbuncle Tumor), and other conditions. One must not use overly cold methods to attack the heat; once the heat recedes, cold may arise and transmit into other diseases. Caution is essential. The treatment method should include Fen Yin Yang (Separating Yin and Yang), Yun Ba Gua (Moving the Eight Trigrams), Qing Tian He (Clearing the Heavenly River), Shui Di Lao Ming Yue (Fishing for the Bright Moon at the Bottom of the Water), Qia Shen Shui (Pinching Kidney Water), and Rou Wai Lao (Kneading Outer Lock). It is advisable to administer Yanshou Dan (Longevity Pill).
