If it is winter, when cold qi is extreme and Kidney Water (Shen Shui) is in season, the pathogenic factor often returns to the Kidneys. Symptoms may initially resemble malaria with alternating chills and fever, followed by thirst; the pustules appear dark red like clotted blood. This is a Kidney syndrome, which is incurable.
In spring, if the pus-filled blisters are overcome by Metal (Lung) suppressing Wood (Liver); in summer, if black depression is caused by Water (Kidney) suppressing Fire (Heart); in autumn, if macules are caused by Fire (Heart) suppressing Metal (Lung); and in winter, if rashes are caused by Earth (Spleen) suppressing Water (Kidney), these are all considered adverse conditions (Ni Zheng). A black tongue or black aura around the nostrils also indicates an incurable condition.
If the pustules have erupted but the patient exhibits delirium, this is a malignant sign. Conditions accompanied by dryness and thirst, dysuria, diarrhea, and inability to eat are also incurable.
If the pustules form cake-like lesions that are dark and pale, fail to erupt, and the voice becomes hoarse and scorched, it is incurable.
Teeth grinding, closed eyes, and cloudy black pupils indicating loss of soul are incurable.
Facial swelling, sunken nose, and frequent teeth grinding are incurable.
Swelling of the head and face, rupture of all pustules, or foul odor that is unbearable, or cold feet extending up to the knees, are incurable.
Small, black, and scorched pustules, with wind pathogen attacking causing swelling and hardness in the cheeks, jaw, lips, and neck, or protruding chest, are incurable.
