Xiaoxiang Lian Wan (Little Wood-Lotus Pill): Treats abdominal pain with diarrhea of undigested food in children caused by the intermingling of cold and heat.
Muxiang (Costus Root), Hezi Rou (Chebulae Fructus, flesh only) (each 2 fen), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma).
Grind the above ingredients into fine powder, make pills using rice paste, size like mung beans. Take 10 to 30-40 pills at once, washed down with rice water.
Diyu San (Sanguisorba Powder): Treats bloody dysentery in children, caused by accumulation of heat-toxin in the large intestine, manifesting as fresh red blood or droplets in stool.
Diyu (Sanguisorbae Radix) (quantity unrestricted).
Grind the above ingredient into fine powder. Take 1 qian per dose, mixed with rice water. Another variation removes Gancao (Licorice Root) and adds Zhike (Aurantii Fructus), Chishao Yao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra), and Gancao; or another formula adds Houpo (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex) and Mugua (Chaenomelis Fructus), taken with decoction.
Shaoyao Bapi Tang (Peony and Phellodendron Decoction): Treats all severe types of dysentery in children, characterized by urgent and distressing symptoms with pus and blood in stool.
Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix), Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex) (each 1 liang), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma) (each 0.5 liang).
Grind the above ingredients into fine powder, make pills using water, size like mung beans. Dissolve and take with warm water.
Weifeng Tang (Stomach Wind Decoction): Treats wind-cold invading the intestines and stomach due to deficiency, leading to indigestion of food and fluids, watery diarrhea; and damp-toxin in the intestines causing stool resembling bean curd dregs or passage of stasis blood, occurring day and night without limit.
Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Fuling (Poria), Xiong (Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Gui (Cinnamomi Ramulus), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix).
Cut the above ingredients into coarse pieces. Take 2 qian per dose, add a few grains of millet, decoct together, and take before meals.
Baidu San (Defeat Toxin Powder): Treats epidemic toxic dysentery; one source indicates it is suitable when family members of all ages show similar symptoms.
Qianhu (Peucedani Radix), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Xiong (Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Fuling (Poria), Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix), Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Zhike (Aurantii Fructus).
Take one zhong of water, add three slices of ginger, one jujube, add Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) and aged rice, decoct, and take in one dose.
Baiyi Xuanfang (Selected Formulas from Baiyi): Treats Jin Kou Li (Jin Kou Dysentery, where the patient cannot eat due to toxin rising).
Take Lotus Seeds (Nelumbinis Semen), remove shells but keep the plumule, grind into fine powder. Take half a qian per dose, mixed with aged rice water. This treats the upward rush of toxic vapors to the heart and lungs by promoting heart qi circulation, after which the patient will feel desire to eat.
Xiang Fu (Fragrant Meat Jerky): Treats severe intestinal scraping dysentery and Jin Kou (inability to eat) in children, manifesting as closed mouth and eyes, in critical cases.
Lean pork (1 liang, sliced thinly), Nifen (Calomelas/Calomel).
Slowly roast the pork over charcoal fire, then evenly spread Nifen on it to form jerky. Give a small amount to the child to eat. If the child does not know how to eat, place it near the nose; the smell will naturally induce eating. This formula is highly effective for toxic food accumulation in the stomach.
Xiaolian Wan (Little Coptis Pill): Treats pediatric diarrhea and dysentery with red and white stool, caused by spleen-stomach weakness leading to inability to consolidate waste, accompanied by abdominal distension, anorexia, intermittent abdominal pain, irritability, thirst, and fever.
Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma) (3 liang), Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma, processed) (1 fen), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Ejiao (Asini Corii Colla, fried until bead-like and decocted into paste, each 1.5 liang).
Grind the first three ingredients into fine powder, use Ejiao paste as binder to make pills size like small beans. For three-year-old children, take 30 pills, dissolve in rice water, take before meals.
Yangzang Tang (Nourish Viscera Decoction): Treats lower dysentery with red and white stool, or stool resembling pus/blood or fish brain, caused by imbalance of cold and heat in children, accompanied by tenesmus, colic around the navel and abdomen, and rectal prolapse.
