[Incurable Signs of Wind Epilepsy]
If a child suffering from epilepsy presents with fixed staring eyes, silent vocalization, unblinking gaze, drooping eyelids, black lips, twitching pupils, cyanosis around the eyes and face, black fingers, frothy saliva resembling pus, trismus (lockjaw), abdominal distension preventing feeding, a sawing sound in the throat, lethargy with refusal to feed, fever accompanied by hematochezia (blood in stool), flaccid body with unconsciousness, hyperactive bowel sounds, cold and painful lips, continuous vomiting and diarrhea, sweating, persistent high fever, inability to sleep despite prolonged lying down, and rigid body stiffness. If pressure on the acupoint below the spine of an adult allows one finger to sink in, or half a finger for a child, these are signs of incurable conditions.
[Moxibustion Methods for Wind Epilepsy]
For pediatric epilepsy and convulsions causing dizziness, moxibustion can be applied to Shenting (GV24) for seven moxa cones. This point is located directly above the nasal bridge, 0.5 cun into the hairline.
For various types of pediatric epilepsy presenting with hiccups and vomiting clear foam, moxibustion can be applied to Juque (CV14) for three moxa cones. This point is located in the depression 1 cun below Jiwei (CV15).
For "Chicken Epilepsy" characterized by fright, eye twitching, and head shaking, moxibustion can be applied to Shaoyin (KI27? Note: Text says "Shaoyin", location described as palm side, likely referring to a specific local point or typo for Laogong PC8 or similar, but strictly translating text: Shaoyin) for two moxa cones. The method specifies locating it in the depression 0.5 cun proximal to the wrist crease on the palmar side.
For "Fright Epilepsy" which begins with a cry of fright, moxibustion can be applied to the center of the whorl of hair on the vertex for three moxa cones, and to the blue collateral vessels behind the ears using moxa cones the size of wheat grains.
For "Fright Epilepsy", moxibustion can be applied to Guilu (EX-HN16) for three moxa cones. The point is located above the central chord on the inner aspect of the upper lip.
For "Food Epilepsy" which begins with chills and shivering, moxibustion can be applied 0.5 cun above Jiwei (CV15) for three moxa cones.
For "Cow Epilepsy" characterized by fixed gaze and abdominal distension before onset, moxibustion can be applied to Jiwei (CV15) for three moxa cones. The point is located in the depression 0.5 cun below the xiphoid process.
For "Horse Epilepsy" characterized by open mouth, head shaking, body opisthotonos, and horse-like cries, moxibustion can be applied to Bushen (BL61) for three moxa cones on each side. The point is located in the depression at the white-flesh boundary below the calcaneus, found by arching the hand.
For "Sheep Epilepsy" characterized by staring eyes, protruding tongue, and sheep-like cries, moxibustion can be applied to the interspace below the spinous process of the 9th thoracic vertebra (D9) for three to five moxa cones.
According to the *Ling Shu*: For sudden spasms where the feet cannot support the body, select Tianzhu (BL10). Tianzhu belongs to the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian. It also states: For epilepsy with convulsions and unknown distress, select below the two Qiao vessels. For males, select Yang Qiao; for females, Yin Qiao. Jiegu stated: Daytime attacks are treated by moxibustion on Yang Qiao; nighttime attacks on Yin Qiao, two cones each. Yang Qiao originates from the middle of the heel, ascends along the medial malleolus to the throat, intersects with the Chong Mai, corresponding to Zhaohai (KI6).
