When children suffer from eye nebula (corneal opacity), one should not lightly use topical eye drops; the primary treatment should be internal medication to dissipate the nebula. One must observe the distribution of red vessels (ocular hyperemia) up, down, inside, and outside, and treat according to the affected meridians. This has been detailed in Volume 7 of Miscellaneous Diseases and the General Discussion by Master Xue previously, so it is not repeated here.
[Xue Ji] A fourteen-year-old girl, due to anger, first experienced amenorrhea, alternating chills and fever, and hypochondriac pain. Subsequently, greenish-green nebulae appeared in both eyes, developing from the outside inward. I reasoned that alternating chills and fever with hypochondriac pain are syndromes of the Foot Jueyin Liver Meridian, while nebulae arising from the outside are syndromes of the Foot Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian. The pulse at the left Guan position was wiry and rapid, and rough upon pressure, indicating wind-heat in the Liver Meridian accompanied by blood stasis. Thus, I prescribed Jiawei Xiaoyao San (Modified Free and Easy Wanderer Powder) with added Fangfeng (Saposhnikovia Root) and Longdancao (Gentian Root). After four doses, the alternating chills, fever, and hypochondriac pain decreased abruptly. She then used Liuwei Wan (Six-Ingredient Rehmannia Pill) for over a month, after which the nebula dissipated.
A fifteen-year-old boy had white nebulae in both eyes, skin resembling scabies but not quite on his abdomen, diaphragm, and whole body, afternoon fever, dry mouth, and emaciation like a skeleton. This is a syndrome of Gan Gan (Liver Malnutrition Syndrome). He was cured using Liufei'er Wan (Six-Ingredient Fattening Child Pill). Later, his penis became itchy, urine was cloudy and white, and sores worsened, resembling Leprosy (Da Feng). He used Da Lushen Siwei Fei'er Wan (Large Aloe Four-Ingredient Fattening Child Pill), and all symptoms gradually improved. He was then cured using Da Wuyi Tang (Large Chromolaena Decoction).
A nine-year-old boy, who had chronic Liver Fire, developed eye nebulae. Taking Lushen Wan (Aloe Pill) and Fei'er Wan (Fattening Child Pill) led to immediate recovery. After age fourteen, due to excessive mental exertion and irregular diet, he suffered from night blindness. He was cured using Buzhong Yiqi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction), Renshen Weitang (Ginseng Stomach-Tonifying Decoction), and Siwei Fei'er Wan (Four-Ingredient Fattening Child Pill).
Another child frequently developed eye nebulae, caused entirely by the wet nurse's anger. Using Jiwei Lushen Wan (Nine-Ingredient Aloe Pill) and Chaihu Zhizi San (Bupleurum and Gardenia Powder), administered to both mother and child, resulted in a cure.
Another child, due to irregular breastfeeding and overdosing on medicine, developed abdominal distension, poor appetite, and irregular bowel movements. His eyes saw spots (visual disturbances). After taking eye medications, floating nebulae gradually formed. I used Yigong San (Extraordinary Skill Powder) with added Danggui (Angelica Sinensis) and Chaihu (Bupleurum). As his diet gradually recovered and bowel movements normalized, I slightly supplemented with Jiwei Lushen Wan, and his vision gradually cleared. Finally, he was cured using Renshen Weitang and Fei'er Wan.
A twelve-year-old boy, suffering from cold damage with cough and fever, took dispersing medicines, causing gradual visual impairment. Then he took fire-descending medicines, leading to reduced diet and gradual formation of eye nebulae. I diagnosed this as deficiency of Middle Qi. Using Renshen Weitang, his diet gradually recovered. He then used Qianjin Bugan Wan (Thousand Gold Liver-Tonifying Pill) and fumigation therapy, resulting in a cure.
A twelve-year-old girl had white nebulae, sallow and puffy face, dry mouth, and diarrhea. She was cured using Siwei Fei'er Wan.
*Ben Shi Fang* treats Sun Han Shui Xian (Sun Cold-Water Depression), where nebulae obscure the pupil.
Fangfeng (Saposhnikovia Root), Baijili (Tribulus Fruit) (each 1 liang), Qianghuo (Notopterygium Root), Ganhua Ju (Chrysanthemum Flower) (3 liang).
Grind into powder. Take 2 qian per dose, add a little salt, and take with boiling water.
*Bao Ming Ji* Lingyangjiao San (Antelope Horn Powder) treats Bing Yi (Ice Nebula) that persists for a long time.

Fa Xian Yi (Depressed Nebula) also belongs to the category of Lingyangjiao San; usage depends on individual circumstances. For those with Yin deficiency and heat, administer Shenxian Tuiyun Wan (Immortal Cloud-Removing Pill) concurrently.
[Li Dongyuan] Buyang Tang (Tonify Yang Decoction) treats Yang failing to overcome Yin, i.e., Yin excess and Yang deficiency, leading to obstruction of the nine orifices. Green or white nebulae appear in the eyes because the Yang Qi of the Foot Jueyin Liver Meridian is suppressed within the Foot Taiyang Bladder and Foot Shaoyin Kidney Meridians, preventing it from ascending to the eyes, thus causing internal obstruction of green nebulae. One should tonify the Yang Qi of the Liver within the Taiyang and Shaoyin meridians (as if in the depths of the earth), allowing it to surge upward. This is first tonifying Yang, then draining the Fire of the Foot Jueyin Liver Meridian which lies hidden within Yang at the Biao points of the Foot Taiyin Spleen Meridian. *Neijing* states: "When Yin is excess and Yang is deficient, one should first tonify Yang, then drain Yin." Take Shengyang Tang (Raise Yang Decoction) on an empty stomach daily, and Xiayin Wan (Drain Yin Pill) before bed. One must regulate constitution to achieve balance beforehand, and take it when the weather is clear and bright, tonifying Yang to ascend and reach the extremities of the Liver Meridian, thereby clearing the orifices of the eyes.

Chew thoroughly, then swallow with the liver broth. Three times a day, at any time. For adult nyctalopia, take on an empty stomach; vision returns at night. If the condition has persisted for a long time, take twice a day.
