Ben Shi Fang (Treatments from the Capable Physician) treats infantile malnutrition accumulation (Gan Ji), characterized by sallow and emaciated complexion and vomiting of food.
Chuanwu (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata, 1 qian) Dingfen (Calamina, 3 qian) Aihui (Mugwort Ash, 2 qian) Longgu (Fossilia Ossis Mammi, 2 qian)
Grind the above ingredients into fine powder, add water dropwise to make pills, sized like longan seeds, shaped into cakes. Take one cake per dose, grind in rice water and swallow.
Liushen Tang (Six-God Decoction): Treats vomiting and diarrhea due to Spleen-Stomach deficiency, with poor appetite.
Huangqi (Astragali Radix) Bidou (Lablab Seed) Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) Fuling (Poria) Zhigancao (Prepared Licorice Root) Huoxiang (Agastegiae Herba) (each equal parts)
Take 3-4 qian per dose, decoct with fresh ginger and jujube, and take orally.
Heji Ju Fang (Formulas of the Bureau of Medical Relief) Guanyin San (Guanyin Powder) [for vomiting and diarrhea]
Renshen San (Ginseng Powder): Treats coldness in the viscera and bowels of infants. If milk or food is eaten and immediately vomited up; or if startled during feeding causing symptoms resembling fright convulsions, leading to external signs such as cyanotic and pale face and lips, heat in the palms and soles, excessive clear saliva in the mouth, incessant regurgitation, or accompanying diarrhea with stools varying in color (green, yellow, purple, white) containing undigested curds, or resembling mucus and egg white, or indigestion of milk/food, this formula is suitable for all such cases. Long-term use opens the stomach and improves milk/food absorption.
Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) Fuling (Poria) Chenxiang (Aquilariae Lignum Resinatum) Baishaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) Gancao (Licorice Root) (each half liang)
Grind into fine powder and store in a sealed container. For infants presenting with the aforementioned symptoms: dosage for half-year-old is "yi zi" (approx. 0.5g), for 2-3 years old is ban qian (approx. 1.5g), for older children is yi qian (approx. 3g). Mix with decocted jujube or rice water and administer. Alternatively, aged Perilla Decoction can be used. If vomiting and diarrhea occur simultaneously, administer with Zidiao Tang (Clove Decoction); Chenpi Tang (Tangerine Peel Decoction) is especially effective.
Jing Yan Fang (Empirical Formulas) treats irregular vomiting in infants.
Use two Wubeizi (Galae Fructus), one raw and one cooked. Take a handful of Gancao (Licorice Root), wrap in wet paper, process (pao), then crush together into powder. Take half qian qi (approx. 2.5g) mixed with rice wash water per dose until recovery.
Zhangzhong Jin (Gold in Palm): Treats infants who vomit water and milk immediately after eating or drinking, unable to retain food.
Baidoukou (Cardamomi Fructus, 14 pods) Gancao (Licorice Root, 1 liang, half processed, half raw) Sharen (Amomi Fructus, 14 pods)
Grind into powder. Gradually place small amounts in the palm for the child to chew dry, or sprinkle directly into the infant's mouth.
Niang Ru Fa (Method of Brewing Milk): Treats neonates suffering from fetal heat syndromes. The lactating mother should take medicine; do not seek rapid results. The treatment method involves brewing the remedy through the milk for the infant to consume gradually, ensuring safety. If cold-purgative drugs are used hastily to attack the pathogen, it will inevitably damage the Spleen and Stomach, leading to vomiting and serious complications.
Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma, 2.5 liang) Zhuling (Polyporus) Chifuling (Red Poria) Tianhuafen (Trichosanthis Radix) (each 1.5 liang) Gansheng Dihuang (Dried Rehmannia Root, 2 liang) Shanyinch'en (Artemisiae Scopariae Herba, leaves only) Gancao (Licorice Root) (each 1 liang)
Cut into pieces. Take 5 qian per dose, add one cup of water, decoct to six-tenths volume. After meals, express and discard old milk, then feed the infant.
[Qian] Ye Shi states: Vomiting foam and phlegm, or white-greenish water, indicates Spleen-Stomach deficiency-cold. Vomiting thick saliva and blood indicates Lung heat. Incessant vomiting of clear water belongs to Heart pain and Stomach cold. Vomiting clear water accompanied by Heart pain indicates worm pain. Vomiting foamy water from the mouth suggests subsequent worm pain. Pale complexion, lackluster eyes, cold breath, anorexia, and vomiting of clear water should be treated primarily with Bupi Yihuang San (Spleen-Nourishing Yellow-Enhancing Powder). [Dan] Vomiting roundworms in winter is mostly due to Spleen-Stomach deficiency-cold causing worm agitation and vomiting. Use Qian Shi Baizhu San (Master Qian's Atractylodes Powder) plus two cloves (Xingzi). Alternatively, Lizhong Tang (Regulate the Middle Decoction) minus Gancao, plus Wumei Rou (Mume Fruit Flesh) and Chuanjiao (Sichuan Pepper).
