Jie Gu stated: Pediatric Gan syndrome involves muscular emaciation and insufficiency of Qi and Blood; treat it similarly to adult Lao Zhai (Consumption disease).
Commentary: Based on Jie Gu's discussion, regardless of cold/heat or deficiency/emaciation, combining Si Jun Zi Tang (Four Gentlemen Decoction), Di Huang Wan (Rehmannia Pill), and the aforementioned medicines is appropriate. However, if there is stagnation and blood stasis in the chest and diaphragm, preventing tolerance of tonics like Ren Shen, Bai Zhu, and Di Huang, first use drugs to clear Gan and remove accumulation, then apply tonification. Therefore, various formulas are recorded for selection. Indeed, disease manifestations are diverse; one cannot handle hundreds of changes by adhering to a single aspect. Those who study formulas for three years claiming no disease is incurable rarely fail to find them complex.
