The abdomen is hard and hotter than other parts of the body, or accompanied by diarrhea or vomiting. This condition arises from overeating followed immediately by sleep. Master Mao used Niuhuang Wan (Calculus Bovis Pill) to purge the accumulation, followed by regulation with Yunqi San (Harmonizing Qi Powder). Regular intake of Wanling Wan (Myriad Efficacy Pill) leads to recovery. Qian Yi's Xiaoji Wan (Accumulation-Dissolving Pill) and Zhenzhu Wan (Pearl Pill) are also indicated. (Prescriptions see previous section)
Kuaige Xiaoshi Wan (Rapid Diaphragm Digestion Pill)
Amomi Fructus (Sharen), Purified Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium (Jing Chenpi), Sparganii Rhizoma (Sanleng), Curcumae Rhizoma (Ezhu), Mass Medicated Leaven (Shenqu), Triticum Aestivum (Mai) (each half liang), Purified Cyperi Rhizoma (Jing Xiangfuzi) (stir-fried separately, one liang).
Grind into fine powder, make pills with paste the size of hemp seeds. Take after meals with plain warm water. Depending on the severity, subsequently use purgative herbs for accumulation. Another formula adds processed Aurantii Fructus (Zhi Zhike).
The symptoms include a yellowish-white complexion, loss of appetite, abdominal pain, crying while twisting the body, and loose stools resembling crab roe. This results from disharmony between Ying (Nutrient) and Wei (Defensive) qi, and conflict between Yin and Yang energies, developing over time. Master Mao regulated the condition by alternating Wanling Wan (Myriad Efficacy Pill), Yunqi San (Harmonizing Qi Powder), Xingpi San (Spleen-Awakening Powder), and Jianpi San (Spleen-Strengthening Powder).
*Mi Lu* treats pediatric Qi Pi (Qi Stagnation Mass) by extracting juice from Sparganii Rhizoma (Sanleng) to make soup or porridge, mixed with rice flour, which the lactating mother consumes. Alternatively, give the infant an amount the size of a jujube daily. Consume hot as porridge or soup. It is effective for children under ten years old and newborns over one hundred days, regardless of whether they suffer from epilepsy-heat, Wugu (Innocuous) malnutrition, or Pi masses. The efficacy is miraculous.
The face appears yellow like earth or slightly puffy. There is mild pain above the umbilicus, heat in the abdominal wall, reduced food intake, and complaints of pain above the umbilicus and in the abdomen immediately after eating. Food is not digested, and there is slight heat in the head. This is caused by consuming hard or cold foods that injure the Spleen and Stomach. Treatment should first involve using Qingjin Wan (Blue Gold Pill) (see previous section) to purge the accumulation in the Spleen, followed by regulation with Yunqi San (Harmonizing Qi Powder) and Xingpi San (Spleen-Awakening Powder). Regular intake of Jianpi San (Spleen-Strengthening Powder) and Wanling Wan (Myriad Efficacy Pill) leads to recovery.
[Master Zeng] Sometimes clear liquid resembling raw rice juice is discharged frequently. This indicates injury compounded by accumulation, causing irritability and restlessness, often leading to anger. This is termed Jingji (Startle Accumulation). First resolve the Startle, then manage the Accumulation. To resolve Startle, use Wuling San (Five Ling Powder) or Baisan San (Hundred Dissolution Powder). To manage Accumulation, use Sanleng San (Sparganium Powder) or Wuxi Wan (Black Rhinoceros Horn Pill) and Sansan San (Three Dissolution Powder). Stir-fried Shenqu (Mass Medicated Leaven) and Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger Decoction) are used to mix and take Xingpi San (Spleen-Awakening Powder) and Chenxiang Binglang Wan (Agarwood and Betel Nut Pill). This calms the spirit, resolves accumulation, strengthens Qi and harmonizes the Stomach. Cold breast milk should be restricted; natural recovery will follow.
[Master Zhuang] Zijin Wan (Purple Gold Pill) treats adults and children where Startle has led to accumulation of sticky, slippery toxic substances in the Spleen and Stomach. Previous purgative attempts failed, resulting in deficiency-type accumulation. Adults experiencing postprandial vomiting, epigastric and abdominal distension, night sweats, and progressive emaciation should take seven pills with Ginger and Jujube Decoction. For women’s blood and Qi disorders, take five to seven pills with Rice Drink. For pediatric Jingji (Startle Accumulation) presenting with fever, heaviness, and inability to open eyes, dissolve a small amount of Nifen (Calomel) with Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Gancao (Licorice Root), Taoren (Peach Seed), and Bohe (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba) in decoction. Children aged one to three take three pills; younger infants take one or two pills.
Scorpion Tail (3-7 pieces), Powdered Cornu Bubali (Xijiao), Silver Powder, Cinnabar (Zhusha) (each one qian).
Grind all ingredients to an extremely fine powder. Make pills the size of mung beans using water and wheat paste. Administer according to the aforementioned decoction methods.
[Master Zhuang] Ruanjin Wan (Soft Gold Pill) treats Jinggan (Startle Malnutrition) and purges accumulations.
Qingdai (Indigo Naturalis), Nifen (Calomel), Picrorhizae Rhizoma (Huhuanglian), Moschus (Shexiang) (each two qian half), Hanshimian (Cold Food Flour), Macadamiae Semen (Shijunzi) (three pieces), Tianjiangzi (Aegle Fruit) (3-7 pieces).
Grind the seven ingredients uniformly. Make pills the size of paulownia seeds using drops of water. Take one pill per dose, dissolved in Gold-Silver Mint Decoction.
[Master Liu] Taohong San (Peach Red Powder) treats pediatric Jingji (Startle Accumulation) and Ganji (Malnutrition Accumulation). Regular consumption improves appetite and gives the face a peach-blossom-like ruddy color.
Natrii Sulfas (Mayaxiao), Cinnabar (Zhusha), Poria (Fuling), Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (Renshen) (equal parts).
Grind into powder. Two-year-olds take "two characters" dosage, one-year-olds take "one character" dosage, three-year-olds take "two characters", and four-to-five-year-olds take "three characters". Mix with fresh well water and a little honey. Honey water should fill about one-third of the cup.
Master Tang stated: Jingpi (Startle Stagnation Mass) must be treated with Mengshi (Fluorite) preparations.
