Kudzu Root (Radix Puerariae) (4 liang), Ephedra Herb (Herba Ephedrae) (3 liang, remove joints, soak in hot water, discard yellow juice, dry and weigh), Fresh Ginger (Rhizoma Zingiberis Recens) (3 liang, sliced), Prepared Licorice Root (Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparata) (2 liang, honey-fried), White Peony Root (Radix Paeoniae Alba) (2 liang), Cinnamon Twig (Ramulus Cinnamomi) (2 liang, bark removed), Jujube (Fructus Ziziphi Jujubae) (12 pieces, broken open), Pinellia Tuber (Rhizoma Pinelliae) (8 liang, washed).
The above eight ingredients. Use one dou of water. First decoct Kudzu Root and Ephedra Herb. Reduce the volume by two sheng. Remove the white foam on the surface. Add the remaining herbs. Decoct to obtain three sheng of liquid. Strain off the dregs. Take one sheng warm. Cover with blankets to induce a slight sweat.
In Taiyang disease (disease pattern caused by pathogenic factors invading the Taiyang channel), presenting with Guizhi Syndrome (a pattern characterized by fever, aversion to wind, sweating, and a floating-slow pulse), if the physician erroneously applies purgation, diarrhea persists without cessation. If the pulse is rapid and intermittent (Cu Mai), it indicates that the exterior syndrome has not yet resolved. For cases involving wheezing and sweating, Ge Gen Huang Lian Huang Qin Tang (Ge Gen Huang Lian Huang Qin Tang, Kudzu Root, Coptis, and Scutellaria Decoction) is the primary formula.
The medical classics state: When purgation is inappropriate but applied, internal deficiency occurs, allowing heat to enter internally, resulting in diarrhea accompanied by fever. In cases of Guizhi Syndrome, the pathogen is at the exterior. Erroneous purgation weakens the stomach and intestines, allowing heat pathogens to exploit this weakness, leading to persistent diarrhea. When the pathogen is at the exterior, yang pulses (such as floating, rapid, or rapid-intermittent) appear; when the pathogen is at the interior, yin pulses (such as deep, slow, or faint) appear. Diarrhea with a faint and slow pulse indicates the pathogen is at the interior. A rapid-intermittent pulse signifies excess yang. Although diarrhea is present, a rapid-intermittent pulse indicates that the exterior syndrome remains unresolved. Some diseases present with sweating and wheezing; this refers to spontaneous sweating accompanied by wheezing, caused by strong pathogenic factors at the exterior. Wheezing accompanied by sweating refers to sweating resulting from wheezing, caused by rebellious qi due to interior heat. Administer Ge Gen Huang Lian Huang Qin Tang to disperse exterior pathogens and clear interior heat.
Kudzu Root (Radix Puerariae) (8 liang), Prepared Licorice Root (Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparata) (2 liang, honey-fried, sweet and neutral in nature), Scutellaria Root (Radix Scutellariae) (2 liang, bitter and cold in nature), Coptis Rhizome (Rhizoma Coptidis) (3 liang, bitter and cold in nature).
The above four ingredients. Use eight sheng of water. First decoct Kudzu Root. Reduce the volume by two sheng. Add the remaining herbs. Decoct to obtain two sheng of liquid. Strain off the dregs. Divide into two doses and take warm.
The *Nei Jing* states: Sweet flavors disperse and belong to Yang. For unresolved exterior syndromes, use the sweetness of Kudzu Root and Licorice Root to disperse. Bitter flavors firm the interior; for those with weak interior qi, use the bitterness of Coptis Rhizome and Scutellaria Root to firm.
In Taiyang disease, presenting with headache, fever, body pain, lower back pain, and joint pain, along with aversion to wind, absence of sweating, and wheezing, Ma Huang Tang (Ma Huang Tang, Ephedra Decoction) is the primary formula.
This is Taiyang Cold Damage (Taiyang Shang Han). Cold injury damages Ying Blood. Headache, body pain, lower back pain, and radiating joint pain indicate impaired circulation of Ying Blood in the Taiyang channel. The *Nei Jing* states: When Wind-Cold pathogens invade the human body, causing hair to stand erect and skin pores to close, resulting in fever, this indicates Cold at the exterior. When Wind merges with Wei Qi, making Wei Qi solid and Ying Blood deficient, spontaneous sweating and aversion to wind and cold occur. When Cold merges with Ying Qi, making Ying Qi solid and Wei Qi deficient, absence of sweating and aversion to wind occur. Because Ying is strong and Wei is weak, Qi rebels upward causing wheezing. Administer Ma Huang Tang to induce sweating and release the exterior.
