Xiyue Zhenren Lingfei San Used to nourish and regulate the spiritual nature. Those who revere the cultivation of virtue and merit should take it.
Yunmu (Cloud Mother/Mica) (Soaked and boiled in autumn dew for seven days and nights, ground extremely fine, until no luster remains when rubbed between fingers; take one jin of purified powder) Fuling (Poria) (8 liang) Zhongru (Stalactite/Gypsum Stalactitum) (Boiled together with Gancao (Licorice Root) for one shichen (2 hours), pounded into powder, washed with water seven times; take 7 liang of purified powder) Baiziren (Biota Seed)
Renshen (Ginseng Root) (In *Qianjin Yifang*, replaced by Baizhu (Atractylodes Rhizome), 4 liang) Xuduan (Teasel Root) Guixin (Cinnamon Twig Bark) (Each 7 liang) Juhua (Chrysanthemum Flower) (Remove calyx and receptacle, 15 liang) Dihuang (Rehmannia Root, dried) (12 liang)
The above nine herbs are ground into powder. Take 5 jin of dried Tianmendong (Asparagus Tuber), remove the heart, and decoct into a paste. Use this paste to mix with the herbal powder, place in a copper vessel, and steam over one hu (a unit of volume) of millet. When the millet is cooked, remove the medicine, dry it thoroughly, and grind into powder. Take one fangcun bi (a square-inch measure) before meals with drink. After taking it for seventy days, switch to pills made with refined white honey. For those taking this formula, even if they have other ailments, do not take other medicines; focus solely on taking this formula. Other ailments will naturally be eliminated. Sun Simiao said: This is a medicine commonly carried and taken by immortals. Since I began taking this formula, nearly three decades have passed. Initially, my complexion became beautiful and pleasing, but I doubted it and dared not try it. After years of inquiry and investigation, many reputable figures found it effective after tasting it, so I began taking it regularly, exactly as the formula states. As long as one persists without ceasing, the effort will not be in vain. (Those taking Yunmu must avoid eating garlic and sheep blood.)
Pengzu Mijiao Wan (Attached) Used to tonify and regulate body and mind. Those dedicated to longevity should take this formula.
Mijiao (Elk Antler) (One pair, roasted until yellow) Binglang (Areca Nut) (The above two ingredients are pounded separately to obtain pure powder, 2 liang) Tongcao (Tetrapanax Pith) Qinjiao (Gentiana Macrophylla Root) Renshen (Ginseng Root)
Tusizi (Dodder Seed) (Soaked in wine, pounded separately.)
Roucongrong (Cistanche Stem) (Soaked in wine, remove rotten parts) Gancao (Licorice Root) (Each 2 liang, pre-scattered)
Take the powders of Mijiao and Binglang, decoct them together for about the time it takes to eat a meal. When the liquid resembles thick porridge, stop the heat. Wait for the heat to dissipate slightly, then add the powder of the latter six herbs, stirring to ensure uniform mixing. Wait a moment longer until it becomes viscous enough to form pills, sized like wutong seeds. Take thirty pills on an empty stomach with wine. Increase by one pill daily until reaching fifty pills. Take twice daily, morning and evening. Abstain from sexual intercourse for one hundred days. After one month of taking this, various internal ailments will naturally expel each other; slight diarrhea should not cause surprise. Fe Baxiong said: Mijiao travels through the Du Mai (Governor Vessel) to tonify yang within yin; Binglang moves within the abdomen to break stagnation within yin; combined with Tongcao and Qinjiao to unblock blood vessels and circulate qi throughout the body; Tusizi and Roucongrong fill and tonify the Kidney; Renshen assists the power of the other ingredients. Someone asked: Various health-preserving formulas belong to different schools, yet Lingfei San is uniquely recommended as the primary choice. May I ask what the principle is? The answer is: Lingfei San represents the true seal of the highest reality. However, ordinary people view it as no different from the wooden clogs transformed at Tiantai Mountain. Therefore, modern seekers of Dao often pay attention to Mijiao Wan, specifically selecting meat-based ingredients to nourish the physical form. How can they know that sentient beings of different species cannot compare with the insentient items of mountain spirits, which are sufficient to cleanse and refine the spiritual nature. Sun Simiao achieved corpse-liberation (shijie) after taking Lingfei San, precisely because Yunmu has a nature that ascends easily, merging completely with the spiritual nature. Regarding the Mijiao Wan formula, Peng Zu found it effective and enjoyed a long life, but because meat-based substances are stagnant and cannot ascend, they ultimately return to the earth, leaving room for doubt. Although, in the world, those who accumulate merit and practice to seek heavenly immortality have not been seen. Those who admire longevity and seek earthly immortality are everywhere. Therefore, the Mijiao Wan formula is attached after Lingfei San, allowing each to follow its appropriate path.
