Bitter, warm. Enters the Qi level of the Foot-Taiyin (Spleen) Meridian. Promotes Qi circulation and invigorates blood. Treats wind-lao pain in the heart and abdomen. Combined with Cyperi Rhizoma (Xiangfu), Linderae Radix (Wuyao), Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium (Chenpi), and Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma Preparata with Honey (Zhi Gancao), ground into powder in equal parts, treats edema in pregnant women. Combined with Curcumae Longae Rhizoma Prepared (Pian Jianghuang) and Pinelliae Rhizoma Preparata (Zhi Banxia), treats arm pain due to phlegm accumulation. With Ephedrae Herba (Mahuang), treats sweating in Shanghan (Cold Damage). With Rhei Radix et Rhizoma (Dahuang), induces abortion. For dampness, stir-fry with ginger juice. To promote Qi movement and diuresis, stir-fry with wine mixed. Contraindicated for those with Qi and Blood deficiency.
(Water plant category, seven species)
Averse to Arca Testa (Haige) and Arcan Testa (Wenge). Avoid iron. Sweet, bland, slightly salty. Enters the Qi level of the Foot-Taiyang (Bladder) and Foot-Shaoyin (Kidney) Meridians. Travels to the Bladder, opening the source of Qi transformation. Unblocks water passages, descends the Qi of Metal-Lung. Removes bladder sediment, treats hematuria, stops dribbling urination,收敛s genital sweating, reduces swelling, eliminates diarrhea and dysentery. For cases of acne with red and scanty urine, this is appropriate. Combined with Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma (Baizhu), treats Zhi Yin (fluid retention under the ribs). Combined with Glechomae Herba (Weixian) and Baizhu, treats Jiufeng (wind caused by alcohol). To strengthen the Spleen, use raw or stir-fried with wine. To nourish Yin and promote diuresis, stir-fry with salt water. Overuse causes blurred vision. Contraindicated for Kidney deficiency.
Strange syndrome: Qi emanating from the mouth and nose. Swirling without dissipating, condensing like a black cover. After ten days, gradually spreads to the chest and shoulders, connecting with flesh, harder than metal and stone, unable to eat or drink, often occurring after malaria. Use Alismatis Rhizoma (Zexie) decoction, three bowls, taken continuously for four to five days, self-heals. For urinary obstruction, use Zexie-like herbs to promote urination. But one must know that Bladder longmi (urinary retention) has various treatments. If Lung Qi is deficient, deficiency leads to rebellious Qi; rebellion leads to short and difficult urination. The disease is in the Upper Jiao Qi level. Use Poria (Fuling), Zexie, and Plantaginis Semen (Cheqian) to regulate the upper source of water, then lower urination will naturally flow. If Fire pathogen scorches Lung Metal, and Heart Fire transfers to the Small Intestine causing difficult urination, use Scutellariae Radix (Huangqin) and Ophiopogonis Tuber (Maidong) to clear it. There are cases of original Cold in the Bladder, where deficiency generates Heat; the disease is in the Lower Jiao Blood level, causing water drowning and obstruction. Use Anemarrhenae Rhizoma (Zhimu) and Phellodendri Cortex (Huangbai) to remove Bladder Heat, and Cinnamomi Ramulus (Guixin) to open water passages. There are cases of Kidney Water deficiency with descending Yin Fire, causing urethral roughness and penile pain. Use Rehmanniae Radix Preparata (Shu Dihuang) and Sheng Dihuang (collectively Er Di), and Ophiopogonis Tuber (Maidong) and Asparagi Tuber (Tian Dong) (collectively Er Dong) to nourish Yin and tonify the Kidney to promote urination. Furthermore, if old fecal matter accumulates in the Large Intestine, causing constipation which leads to urinary obstruction, one should only unblock the large intestine, then small water will flow without specific treatment. Zexie and Cheqian are even more unsuitable here. How can bland-draining agents be applied indiscriminately?
