**Cnidium Seed (Shechuangzi)**
Incompatible with Ecliptae Herba (Emudan), Fritillariae Bulbus (Beimu), and Crotonis Fructus (Badou). Can suppress the toxicity of Realgar (Shihuang).
Pungent, Bitter, Warm. Enters the Qi level of the Kidney and Mingmen (Gate of Vitality), and the Hand-Shaoyang (Sanjiao) Meridian. Opens stagnation, dispels wind-dampness. Treats sores, tinea, and various bi-syndromes. Decocted for bathing, it immediately removes skin sores and severe itching caused by leprosy-like diseases. Combined with Myrobalan (Wumei), decocted to wash prolapse of the vagina and genital pain (due to the dispersion of cold qi). Combined with Coptidis Rhizoma (Chuanlian) and Calomel (Qingfen), blown into the ear to treat damp sores. Paired with Alum (Baifan), decocted to wash female genital itching (has insecticidal properties). Assisted by Dodder Seed (Tusizi), treats impotence (due to the removal of cold-dampness).
Remove the shell, take the kernel, stir-fry lightly to eliminate its toxicity so it is no longer pungent. Soak in wine, sun-dry, mix with Rehmanniae Radix Preparata (Dihuang) juice, steam, and bake dry before use. Alternatively, soak together in concentrated Isatidis Folium (Banlangen) juice and Stemona Radix (Baibu) juice, filter out, sun-dry, then mix with Raw Rehmanniae Radix (Shengdihuang) juice, steam, and sun-dry before use. If used as a decoction for washing sores, use raw.
**Ligusticum Chuanxiong (Chuanxiong)**
Fearful of Celosia Seed (Qingxiangzi). Incompatible with [Text Missing, likely Liriope or similar].
Pungent, Bitter, Warm. Enters the Qi level of the Foot-Taiyang (Bladder) Meridian. Primarily treats cold qi invading the Great Yang (Taiyang), stopping vertex headache radiating to the teeth and cheeks. Treats acute abdominal pain, cures female swelling and hernia (all caused by Taiyang wind-dampness). Paired with Aucklandiae Radix (Muxiang), treats clear evil from fog and dew attacking the Upper Jiao. Paired with Atractylodis Rhizoma (Cangzhu), treats severe heart-stomach pain (due to cold-dampness). Paired with Angelica Dahurica Powder (Baizhi), applied at night and combed in the morning, removes head dandruff and scales.
Contraindicated in headache accompanied by deficiency and internal heat, and in summer-spring yang-pattern headaches.
For headache, without an guiding herb (Shiyao) to lead the action, there is no effect. However, each meridian has its specific guiding herb; do not mix them indiscriminately. For Yangming meridian, Baizhi should be used; for Shaoyang, Chaihu should be used; for Taiyin, Cangzhu is suitable; for Jueyin, Chuanxiong is effective; for Shaoyin, Xixin is used slightly; for Taiyang, [Text Missing, context implies Gao Ben] achieves success.
**Angelica Sinensis (Danggui)**
Uses Ligusticum Sinense (Danggui) as the guiding herb. Fearful of Inula Flower (Xuanfuhua). Can restrain Realgar (Xionghuang) and Sulfur (Shihuang).
Pungent, Warm. Enters the Qi level of the Hand-Yangming (Large Intestine) and Foot-Yangming (Stomach) Meridians. Its aroma opens orifices, induces sweating, dispels dampness, and scatters wind. Reduces fever, stops pain, discharges pus, and generates flesh. It can treat all conditions such as sinusitis (Bi Yuan), tearing, headache, cheek heat, supraorbital pain, toothache, sores, neck lumps, metrorrhagia, leukorrhea, intestinal wind, foul pus, and diseases caused by wind-dampness. Resolves arsenic and snake/insect poison. Combined with Cinnabar (Chensha), treats persistent night sweats (due to removal of damp-heat), and also rubs on for wind-heat toothache. Combined with Schizonepeta (Jingjie) and aged tea (Lathe), treats runny nose due to wind-cold. Combined with Toona Bark (Chungenpi), treats damp-heat leukorrhea. Paired with Scutellaria Root (Huangqin), treats supraorbital pain (pain caused by damp-heat). Paired with White Mustard Seed (Baijiezi) and fresh ginger juice, mixed and applied to treat swollen and painful feet (Hong Kong foot/tinea pedis). Paired with Hibiscus Root (Hongkui Gen), White Peony Root (Baishao), and Calcined Alum (Kufan), made into pills with honey/wax, treats leukorrhea with foul pus (if pus is exhausted, tonify with other herbs). Assisted by Trichosanthes Fruit (Louren), treats breast abscess (Ruyong). Mixed with pig blood, treats blood-wind syndrome.
Those that are white in color and fragrant in aroma are superior. Peel, slice, steam twice with equal parts of Polygonatum Rhizome (Huangjing), sun-dry, and remove Huangjing before use. To arrest metrorrhagia and leukorrhea, stir-fry to charcoal. Use raw to remove facial spots. Its nature is drying, acrid, and dispersing; contraindicated in blood deficiency and qi deficiency. Do not use on already ulcerated carbuncles and sores.
Strange Syndrome: Due to irregular eating habits leading to indigestion, formation of a turtle-like parasite in the abdomen, erratic movement, and emaciation, use Baizhi as the sovereign herb, combined with Realgar (Xionghuang) and white horse urine, made into pills. Take three qian with child's urine daily without interruption until cured.
