Using yellow paper and cinnabar ink to write talismans: one tied around the head, one carried on the person, and one pasted on the door.
[Diagram of Lu Zu's Talisman for Curing Hundred Diseases]
Headache: Take one *Ricini Semen* (Castor Bean) [Bì Má Zǐ], crush it, mix with a small amount of jujube flesh, and grind evenly into pills the size of soybeans. Wrap each pill in silk floss, insert it into the nostril. After a short while, clear nasal discharge will flow out. Immediately remove the pill, and the pain will be cured and never recur. If the pill is not removed promptly and remains in the nose for too long, it may cause cerebrospinal fluid leakage, resulting in an incurable condition. Remember this well. (From *QiTian Shi Bie Zhuan*)
Another prescription: Use *Ligustici Rhizoma et Radix* (Gao Ben) [Běn] and *Gleditsiae Sinensis Fructus Spinosus* (Ya Zao) [Yá Zào], one of each. Grind them into powder, roll in silk gauze, ignite to produce smoke, and inhale near the nostrils. Effective. (From *Shou Yu Shen Fang*)
Persistent headache: Grind *Myrica rubra* fruit (Yang Mei) [Yáng Méi] into powder. Inhale a small amount into the nose to induce sneezing. Excellent effect. (From *Ben Cao Gang Mu*)
Unbearable headache: Extract fresh juice from *Raphanus sativus* var. *longipinnatus* (Radish) [Luó Bo]. Add a small amount of *Borneolum Syntheticum* (Long Nao) [Lóng Nǎo] and *Menthae Haplocalycis Herba* (Bo He) [Bò He]. Drip into the nostrils. If the pain is on the left, drip into the right nostril; if on the right, drip into the left; if both sides hurt, drip into both nostrils simultaneously. Immediate relief. (From *Mi Fang Ji Yan*)
Tengiocephalic and frontal headaches: *Cercidiphylli Cortex* (Zi Jing Pi) [Zǐ Jīng Pí] 5 liang (stir-fried), *Angelicae Dahuricae Radix* (Bai Zhi) [Bái Zhǐ], *Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma* (Shi Chang Pu) [Shí Chāng Pú], *Paeoniae Rubra Radix* (Chi Shao) [Chì Sháo] (stir-fried), *Angelicae Pubescentis Radix* (Du Huo) [Dú Huó] (remove joints, stir-fried) 3 liang, and *Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma* (Shi Chang Pu) [Shí Chāng Pú] 2 liang. Prepare a strong decoction of green onion heads to mix with the powder and apply as a poultice. The pain stops immediately upon application, miraculous. (From *Chi Shui Xuan Zhu*)
Another prescription: Take 1 liang of *Ricini Semen* (Castor Bean) [Bì Má Zǐ] (peeled), grind into a paste, and apply to the painful area. (From *Dan Fang Quan Ji*)

Heat stagnation in the brain causing headache: Grind *Natrii Nitras* (Xiao Shi) [Xiāo Shí] into powder and insufflate into the nostrils. Pain stops immediately. (Same source)
Head and brain pain: Take 1 qian of *Borneolum Syntheticum* (Pian Nao) [Piàn Nǎo]. Roll in paper to make a taper, ignite to produce smoke, and fumigate the nose. Expel phlegm and saliva, and the pain heals. (From *Pu Ji Fang*)
Taiyang headache: Wrap 3 slices of *Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens* (Sheng Jiang) [Shēng Jiāng] in skin-paper, moisten with water, and bake in fire ash until cooked. Apply two slices to the Taiyang acupoints and one slice to the Yintang point in the center of the forehead. Secure with a bandage. Immediate cure. (From *Jing Yan Mi Fang*)
Head wind and cold brain: *Asari Radix et Rhizoma* (Xi Xin) [Xì Xīn] 3 stems, *Cucumeris Fructus* (Gua Di) [Guā Dì] 7 pieces, *Eugeniae Caryophyllata Flos* (Ding Xiang) [Dīng Xiāng] 3 grains, *Oryza Sativa* (Nuomi) [Nuò Mǐ] 7 grains, *Borneolum Syntheticum* (Nao Zi) [Nǎo Zǐ], and *Moschus* (She Xiang) [Shè Xiāng], each the size of a bean. Grind all into powder. Depending on whether the head wind affects the left or right side, insufflate the powder into the nostrils. After a while, about one sheng of saliva will be expelled, and the condition heals. (From *Li Xing An Fang*)
*C Zheng Zhun Sheng* states: Medical texts often divide headache and head wind into two categories, but they are essentially the same disease.
