**Miraculous Formula for Treating Malaria (Also Treats Three-Yin Malaria)**: Cinnabar (Zhu Sha) and Piperis Longi Fructus (Hu Jiao), each one liang, are ground together into an extremely fine powder until no granules remain. Mix evenly, store in a porcelain bottle or tin box to prevent leakage of air. When using, take one patch of Nuan Qi Gao (Warm the Navel Plaster), place one teaspoon of the medicinal powder in the center of the plaster, ensuring it does not touch the four edges. Apply the plaster tightly against the navel. Even if the malaria stops, do not remove it lightly; wait for it to fall off naturally. It is invariably miraculous. For Three-Yin Malaria, change the patch every ten days. Using up to three patches can also achieve efficacy. However, this method should only be used after the malaria has occurred three or four times; otherwise, stopping it too early may prevent the wind-cold pathogen from being expelled, potentially leading to other complications. Contraindicated in pregnant women. (From *Deqing Xu Shi Shiji Fang*)
**Laborious Malaria and Miasmic Malaria**: One wild fox liver, dried in the shade, weighed on the fifth day. At the beginning of the fifth watch (around 1-3 AM) under the Big Dipper, collect its "qi" and grind into powder. Form pills the size of mung beans using glutinous rice. Take one pill each time, wrap it in red silk, and tie it around the middle finger. Men tie it on the left hand, women on the right. (From *Shenghui Fang*)
**To Intercept Malaria**: Three jujubes (pitted and peeled) and two blister beetles (Banshao, roasted dry) are ground together evenly. Mix with rendered pork fat and knead into cakes the size of a finger. Apply to Yintang (EX-HN3). Cure overnight. (From *Shangyi Tang Shisong Fang*)
**Another Method**: On the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, take a spotted spider, dry it, and store it in a crimson bag. When the malaria strikes, tie it to the arm. Men use the left arm, women the right. Do not let the patient know. (From *Pujifang*)
**Expel Malaria**: One slice of large old ginger. At sunrise, face east towards the sun. Write the characters "Pi E" (Repel Evil) on it with cinnabar ink. Exhale breath onto it, then bind it to the left arm. Miraculous effect. (From *Tao Shi Bie*)
**Sweating Method for Seventy-Two Syndromes of Cold Damage**: Seven jujubes, seven grains of black pepper, and seven seeds of Gastrodiae Rhizoma (Tian Ma Zi). Add one qian of Vermilion (Yin Zhu) and crush them together. Men place the medicine in the left palm and put it inside the bend of the right leg. Women place it in the right palm inside the bend of the left leg. Cover with a blanket, and sweat will pour like rain. (From *Tongshou*)
**Jie Xiong (Chest Knotting) Cold Damage**: Seven cun of Radix et Rhizoma Rhei (Dahuang) and fourteen seeds of Crotonis Fructus (Badou). Grind into powder, mix with saliva to form a cake. Place over the navel and moxa-burn with a moxa cone. Stop when heat penetrates inward. This formula can be used regardless of whether the patient is strong, weak, deficient, or excess. After moxibustion, immediately wipe away the toxic residue gently with warm water and a handkerchief. This method saves many lives and must not be underestimated. (Ibid.)
**Yin Syndrome Cold Damage**: Abdominal pain and cold extremities. Grind mustard seeds (Jie Cai Zi) into powder, mix with water, and apply to the navel. (From *Shengsheng Bian*)
**Yin Syndrome Cold Damage with Cyanotic Nails**: Use one old rooster. Split it along the spine. While still hot, wrap the chicken including intestines and blood tightly around the navel. Bind securely with cloth. The patient will wake up within one hour. If the penis retracts, pull it out manually. (From *Luzhutang Fang*)
**Yang Toxin Cold Damage**: For severe mania and confusion, soak one chi of blue cloth in cold water and apply to the chest. (From *Nanyang Huoren Shu*)
**Cold Damage with Mania Difficult to Control**: Place a basin of charcoal fire. Pour aged vinegar onto the fire so that the fumes enter the patient's nose. Immediate calmness ensues. (From *Fangchao*)
**Cold Damage with Corneal Opacity**: Burn fourteen fermented soybeans (Douchi), grind into powder, and insufflate into the eye. (From *Zhouhou Fang*)
**Cold Damage with Tongue Protruding Over One Cun**: Half a fen of Borneolum Syntheticum (Meihua Pian Nao), grind into powder and sprinkle on the tongue. Cure follows instantly. (From *Yijian Zhi*)
**Cold Damage with Thorn-like Projections and Black Coating on Tongue**: Wash the tongue with green cloth soaked in fresh well water. Scrape the tongue with a slice of ginger; the thorns will recede naturally. (From *Leibian*)
**Cold Damage with Wind-Bi Syndrome Unable to Sweat**: Heat the ground, sprinkle with water, and lay dry peach leaves two or three cun thick on top. Lie on a mat covered warmly to induce profuse sweating. Apply powder in the bedding. Recovery occurs when the body becomes very dry. (From *Bencao Congxin*)
**Food Stagnation Cold Damage**: Six liang of aged fermented rice residue (Chen Xiangzao), four liang of fresh ginger, four liang of Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma (Shui Changpu), and two liang of salt. Pound together, stir-fry until hot, and form into cakes. Apply to the painful area on the chest. Iron with heat. Remove when rumbling sounds occur internally. If thirsty, drink tea freely. Recovery occurs after foul matter is passed in stool. (From *Danfang Huibian*)
**Yellow Ear Cold Damage**: Grind Sophorae Flavescentis Radix (Kushen) in water and drip into the ear. Alternatively, use juice from Alpiniae Officinarum Rhizoma (Houjiang), Menthae Haplocalycis Herba (Ku Bohe), or Costi Radix (Tumu Xiang). (From *Yibaoshuo*)
**Red Diaphragm Cold Damage**: Prick the swollen area with a three-edged needle to bleed. This alleviates pain. (Ibid.)
**Rapid Resolution Method**: For patients with cold damage who have insufficient primordial qi, cannot sweat, and cannot tolerate heavy diaphoresis: Slice eight liang of old ginger, pound and stir-fry until hot. Wrap the ginger in cotton cloth. Two people each hold a bundle. First rub the patient's palms and soles, then the anterior and posterior chest. Replace with hot ginger if cool. When the body feels hot, the cold pathogen is forced out. Recovery occurs either through sweating or the appearance of fine red rashes. (From *Mifang Jiyuan*)
