Manic epilepsy caused by pathogenic factors, where the patient is unwilling to sleep and walks aimlessly without cease. The symptoms often occur in the early morning darkness, starting at Yin hour (3:00-5:00 AM). Do not let others see the patient at this time. Use the left hand to pick seven petals of peach leaves growing towards the east, and secretly tie them within the patient's hair; the condition will then stabilize. (From *Ji Xiao Fang*)
Sheep Epilepsy: Take fresh ginger and fine sifted flour (each 1 liang), musk (7 fen), Gardenia fruit, green onion heads, egg white (each 7 units), and earthworms (7 pieces). Pound them together until thoroughly mixed and mashed, warm the mixture, and bind it to the abdomen with a silk cloth. After three days, if blue veins appear, prepare the medicine according to the prescription and bind it for another three days; if no blue veins appear, the disease is cured. For severe cases, three applications can eradicate the root cause, preventing recurrence forever. (From *Meixi Gu Shi Kan Fang*)
All cases of uncontrollable mania: Place a basin of charcoal fire, and pour a bowl of vinegar onto the fire so that the smoke enters the patient's nose. Simultaneously, spray ginger juice on the patient's head, face, body, hands, and feet. The condition will stabilize, after which one can observe whether it is Yang mania or Yin restlessness to determine the medication. (From *Yi Zong Shuo Yue*)
All cases of mania caused by heat diseases: Ensure the bed curtains are fully opened to allow fresh air to circulate for a long time. Then, press a copper mirror against the chest and heart area; remove it as soon as the heat subsides slightly. If the mania is caused by Cold Damage or Warm-Heat diseases, accompanied by unquenchable thirst, grind 1 jin of Mirabilite finely. Soak three to five pieces of blue cloth (square, about one chi per side) in water containing the Mirabilite. Apply the wet cloth to the patient's chest and upper back, replacing it frequently while it remains cold. Recovery occurs when the patient falls asleep and sweats. (Ibid.)
Initial onset of Epileptic seizures: Instill juice of Gleditsia sinensis into the nostrils. The wind-phlegm will then discharge from the nose and mouth as snot and saliva. If, after regaining consciousness, the phlegm secretion does not stop, urgently administer salt water to stop it. (From *Yi Zong Jin Jian*)
Another method: Moxibustion at Baihui GV20 during an attack, regardless of the number of moxa cones, stopping when the patient regains consciousness. Repeat moxibustion upon recurrence until cured. (From *Ci Jiu Yao Jue*)
Wind Epilepsy: Manifests first with finger movements resembling counting objects before the actual seizure. Moxa three cones at Wanwanzhong located at the hairline midpoint.
Pig Epilepsy: The condition resembles corpse-like syncope, with clear foam spitting from the mouth. Moxa three cones at Juque CV14.
Sheep Epilepsy: Eyes staring wide, tongue protruding, emitting sheep-like bleating sounds. Moxa three to five cones at the space below the ninth thoracic vertebra.
Horse Epilepsy: Mouth open, head shaking, body arching backward, emitting horse-like neighing sounds. Moxa three cones each at Puxun BL60 on both sides.
Ox Epilepsy: Prone to fright, body arching backward, hands and arms twitching and shaking. Moxa at the depression located five cun distal to the wrist crease on the posterior aspect of the hand, corresponding to the Hand-Shaoyin meridian. (The Five Epilepsies are all described in *Bing Ji Sha Zhuan*)
