General treatment for ten types of erysipelas (erysipelatous inflammation): Beifangfeng (Radix Saposhnikoviae), Heizhiren (Fructus Gardeniae Jasminoidis prepared with soot), Maidong (Rhizoma Ophiopogonis), Jingjiesui (Cacumen Schizonepetae), Fengan Ge (Radix Puerariae Lobatae prepared with starch), Bohe (Herba Menthae), Mutong (Caulis Akebiae Trifoliatae), Kushen (Cortex Phellodendri Amurensis), Niubangzi (Fructus Arctii Lappae), each one qian (approx. 3-5g); Shengma (Rhizoma Cimicifugae) seven fen (approx. 2-3g); Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae Uralensis) five fen (approx. 1.5-2.5g); Dengxin (Medulla Junci) ten roots. Decoct in water and take hot. If constipation occurs, add Dahuang (Radix et Rhizoma Rhei) one qian to promote bowel movement; external application methods may also be used.
Porcelain needle bloodletting method: Gently break a piece of high-quality porcelain ware, select the sharpest fragment as a needle. Split the head of a chopstick horizontally to clamp the porcelain needle, exposing the sharp edge outside, and tie it tightly with thread. Position the porcelain tip directly against the site of erysipelas. Use another chopstick to gently tap the chopstick holding the porcelain needle, causing blood to flow out naturally. Multiple punctures are better; once the toxic blood is completely expelled, immediate efficacy is observed. In treating erysipelas, if toxic blood is not removed via bloodletting and only topical applications are used, fewer than one in ten patients will survive.
Feizaodan (Flying Stove Erysipelas): Swelling begins on the top of the head and then spreads. First, crush scallion whites (Congbai, Bulbus Allii Cepae) to extract natural juice and apply it; this is effective.
Zouzaodan (Walking Stove Erysipelas): Redness and swelling begin on the top of the head, accompanied by extreme pain. Grind red rice beans (Hongfandou) into powder, mix with egg white (Jidanqing, Albumen Ovi Galli), and apply.
Guohuodan (Ghost Fire Erysipelas): Redness and swelling begin on the face. Grind Zaoxintu (Caulis Cinnamomi prepared ash/Zao Xin Tu) into fine powder, mix with egg white, and apply.
Tianhuodan (Heavenly Fire Erysipelas): Red spots appear on the back. Crush Sangbaipi (Cortex Mori), bake until dry, grind into fine powder, mix with sheep fat (Yangyou, Adip Ovis), and apply.
Tianzaodan (Heavenly Stove Erysipelas): Redness, swelling, and yellowish discoloration begin on both arms. Burn willow wood (Liumu, Ramulus Salicis) into charcoal, grind into powder, mix with clean water, and apply.
Shuidan (Water Erysipelas): Redness and swelling begin on both flanks. Grind rusted iron from many years to obtain a thick liquid, mix with pig lard (Zhuyou, Adip Sus), and apply.
Huludan (Gourd Erysipelas): Begins below the umbilicus. Crush Jianbinglang (Arecae Semen acuminatum), bake until dry, grind into powder, mix with rice vinegar (Micu, Acetum Orizae), and apply.
Yehuodan (Wild Fire Erysipelas): Redness and swelling begin on both feet. Remove oil from Rushiang (Resina Frankincense), grind into powder, mix with sheep fat, and apply.
Yanhuodan (Smoke and Fire Erysipelas): Redness and swelling begin on the dorsum of the foot. Grind earth from under a pig trough into powder, mix with sesame oil (Mayou, Oleum Sesami Nigri), and apply.
Huloudan (Hu Lou Erysipelas): Red veins appear below the scrotum. Grind soil accumulated under door thresholds over many years into powder, mix with sheep fat, and apply.
In cases of severe fetal toxin manifesting all over the body: Quickly use Yuntaizi (Semen Brassicae Napus), which is rapeseed. Weigh one liang (approx. 30-37g), mix with a large pot of wine lees, form into cakes, filter out the dregs, take the filtered wine, boil again for several minutes, and drink one cup warm at any time. Another prescription: Crush Yuntaicaiye (Folium Brassicae Napus) and apply as a poultice; it resolves immediately. If fresh leaves are unavailable, use dried leaves ground into powder, mixed with water for application. For erysipelas covering the whole body or encircling the waist where all other methods fail, this prescription is the most miraculous.
Xiao'er Chidan (Pediatric Red Erysipelas): Use lean pork (Jingzhurou), cut into thin slices, and apply as a patch. For severe cases, applying twice leads to recovery.
