Three spoonfuls of juice from *Platycladi Cacumen* (Baijiye, 侧柏叶) crushed from the shady side, mixed with three spoonfuls of raw honey, one cup of well water, and one cup of boiling water; stirred and administered orally will result in immediate recovery.
At the onset of this syndrome, the child yawns and feels restless, accompanied by fever and thirst. The complexion appears yellowish-white, with sweat on the forehead. Crying induces sweating, which slightly reduces the fever, but the fever returns to its original state shortly thereafter. There is phlegm rattling in the throat; crying triggers vomiting, expelling phlegm. If this occurs daily, it is classified as Malaria (Nüe Bing, 疟病). This syndrome primarily involves the Shaoyang channel (Shaoyang Jing, 少阳经). If exterior and interior are harmonized early, the malaria pathogen will dissipate rapidly. It is often mistaken for Wind-Stroke or Convulsion (Jing Feng, 惊风), and sedative/heavy-settling agents are lightly applied, obstructing Ying and Wei Qi (Ying Wei, 营卫). Consequently, the pathogen cannot exit, leading to mental confusion and convulsions during malaria attacks. Qingpi Yin (Clear the Spleen Decoction) is appropriate for resolution. For further details, refer to the "Malaria" section below.
Qingpi Yin: Treats pediatric malaria with heat inducing convulsions. There is no need to treat the convulsions directly; only treat the malaria.
Ingredients: Qingpi (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus), Chenpi (Aurantii Pericarpium), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix), Baipiao Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma processed), Yunling (Poria), Caoguoren (Tsaoko Cardamomi Fructus), Zhi Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma preparatum), Chuan Nongpu (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex) (each 1 qian), Zhigancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma preparatum) (5 fen), Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) (3 slices), Dazao (Jujubae Fructus) (3 pieces).
Preparation: Decoct in water. Take warm one hour before the expected attack. Three doses are guaranteed to be effective. Another method: Insert snake slough into the nostril one hour before the attack. For males, use the left nostril; for females, the right. Remove after time has passed. Effective. For further details, refer to the Simple Prescriptions section below.
At the onset of this syndrome, excessive crying along the meridians between the two eyebrows indicates abdominal pain. Restlessness and unease indicate tenesmus (Li Ji Hou Zhong, 里急后重). Frequent trips to the toilet without successful defecation, or stool containing both red (blood) and white (mucus), or purely red or purely white, are the signs. Although this syndrome arises from internal injury due to diet, it invariably manifests upon external contraction. Administering Renshen Baidu San (Ginseng Detoxification Powder) plus 3 qian of aged rice powder will reduce the illness. If there is food stagnation, mild cases require digestion-promoting methods, while severe cases require unblocking and purging to remove accumulated waste; all such cases will recover. Another single prescription: 5 qian of fragrant mushroom (Xiangjun, 香菌), 2.5 qian each of brown sugar and white sugar; decoct in water and take for immediate cure. For further details, refer to the "Dysentery" section below.
At the onset of this syndrome, the face is red, lips are crimson, breathing is coarse with fever, coughing is accompanied by phlegm rattling, eyelids may be slightly swollen, and sweat appears on the forehead. These symptoms indicate a cold-heat pattern injuring the Lung due to external contraction, requiring urgent dispersal and resolution. If cold patterns are treated with cooling/purgative herbs instead of acrid-warm dispersants, or if heat patterns are treated with ascending herbs instead of cooling/purgatives, it may lead to hoarseness, eyes rolling back, and hand convulsions. In such cases, Jin Su Dan (Golden Millet Pill) from *Jicheng* is appropriate. However, since the original text did not provide a formula for initial dispersal, we propose using Renshen Baidu San (Ginseng Detoxification Powder) plus seven Xingren (Prunus Armeniacae Semen) seeds, decocted and taken for two to three doses. Renshen Baidu San is referenced in the "Mistaken Convulsions" section. For other symptoms, refer to the Internal Medicine "Cough" section.
