[Zhang Yuansu's Formula, i.e., Qianghuo Chonghe Tang] Treats cold damage (Shanghan) or wind strike (Shangfeng) presenting with aversion to cold and high fever, headache and body pain, neck pain and stiffness of the spine, and vomiting. Applicable to cases involving the Taiyang channel without sweating. It also treats colds and various epidemic diseases caused by pathogenic factors of the four seasons (referring to foul qi in heaven and earth and contagious diseases). (Vomiting with sound and matter is called "Ou", caused by rebellious Qi; vomiting with matter but no sound is called "Tu", often due to stomach cold. When pathogenic heat is at the exterior, there is no thirst; when it transmits to the interior, thirst occurs. The so-called pathogenic factors of the four seasons refer to foul qi in the environment and the spread of infectious diseases.)

Ingredients: Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma, 1.5 qian), Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma, 0.5 qian), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), Shengdi (Rehmanniae Radix), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 1 qian). Add Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) and Congbai (Allii Fistulosi Bulbus) for decoction. If Shengdi is removed, it becomes a modified formula.

This is a representative formula for the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Channel, used to substitute for smaller doses of Guizhi Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction), Mahuang Tang (Ephedra Decoction), and Da Qinglong Tang (Major Green Dragon Decoction). Herbs with pungent flavor belong to Metal, corresponding to the virtue of Righteousness (Yi) in humans, thus they can support healthy Qi and expel pathogenic factors.
(Note: The original text contains fragmented sentences regarding Baizhi, implying its role in dispelling wind and heat, but strictly adhering to the source content provided.)

[Jufang Formula, i.e., Shishen Tang] Treats seasonal epidemics and initial infection by Liqi (pestilential qi), presenting with headache, fever, aversion to cold, absence of sweating, cough, nasal congestion, and heavy voice. (Liqi enters through the mouth and nose, travels directly along the central pathway, spreads through the Sanjiao, causing transmission within households and communities, termed epidemic plague. Headache, fever, aversion to cold, and absence of sweating indicate pathogen at the exterior. Cough, nasal congestion, and heavy voice indicate exterior excess and impaired Qi movement. In seasonal diseases, the presence of cough indicates that pathogenic factors are attempting to exit, suggesting an easier recovery.)

Ingredients: Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba), Gegen (Puerariae Lobatae Radix), Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), Zisu (Perillae Folium), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Xiangfu (Cyperi Rhizoma), Chishao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra). Add Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) and Congbai (Allii Fistulosi Bulbus) for decoction. Treatment of cold damage requires differentiation to disperse epidemic toxins.

[Hai Zang Formula, i.e., Shenzhu San] Treats internal injury from cold/frozen drinks combined with external contraction of cold pathogen, resulting in absence of sweating. (Internal injury from cold drinks causes cold-dampness to stagnate in the Middle Jiao. As stated in the classics: "Cold food entering the stomach causes lung cold"; lung cold leads to the combination of internal and external pathogens, hence no sweating. Cold causes blood stasis/constriction, thus no sweating.) It also treats Gangjing (Stiff Spasm). (Caused by prior wind strike followed by dampness, excessive sweating in Taiyang disease, excessive sweating in dampness patients, postpartum blood deficiency, or broken skin wind. Symptoms include head shaking, jaw clenching, convulsions of hands and feet, and opisthotonos. Absence of sweating characterizes Gangjing (Yang spasm); presence of sweating characterizes Roujing (Yin spasm). There are cases where the distinction is unclear. Do not treat solely as wind syndrome; appropriate methods include clearing heat, resolving phlegm, dispersing wind, nourishing blood, and occasionally using Dachengqi Tang (Major Order the Yellow Decoction) for purging. Yang spasms do not present with JueNi (cold extremities/reversal); those with JueNi are Yin spasms. Yin spasms should be treated with Fuzi Tang (Aconite Decoction), Fuzi Fangfeng San (Aconite and Saposhnikovia Powder), or Guixin Baizhu Tang (Cinnamon Heart and Atractylodes Macrocephala Decoction).)

Ingredients: Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma, processed), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix, 2 liang), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 1 liang, honey-fried). Add Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) and Congbai (Allii Fistulosi Bulbus) for decoction. If Taiyang symptoms such as fever, aversion to cold, and floating-tight pulse appear, add Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba). Some practitioners add Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix).

Fangfeng is pungent and warm, ascending and floating, capable of dispelling wind and overcoming dampness, serving as the chief herb for the Taiyang channel. Cangzhu is sweet, warm, and pungently acrid, capable of dispersing cold and inducing sweating, repelling evil, and raising Yang. (It raises clear Qi from the Stomach, directing action to the Yangming channel. When pathogenic and healthy Qi contend, Yin excess causes aversion to cold, Yang excess causes high fever. Flow into the joints causes whole-body pain. Ascending to the head and face causes swelling, named Datouwen (Big Head Plague). Cangzhu is pungent and acrid, raising Yang, repelling evil, drying dampness, and resolving depression. Houpo (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex) is bitter and warm, drying dampness, dissipating fullness, transforming food, and thickening the intestines. Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) regulates Qi and unblocks the Sanjiao. Gancao harmonizes the middle and rectifies Spleen Earth. This formula is Pingwei San (Peaceful Stomach Powder) with Chenpi used as the chief herb in heavy dosage. The human body relies primarily on Stomach Qi. Strong Stomach Qi prevents invading pathogens; thus, treating external pathogens must prioritize strengthening the Stomach. Adding Huoxiang (Agastaches Herba) and Shichangpu (Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma) utilizes their pungent and aromatic properties to open orifices.)

[Jufang Shenzhu San] Maoyu (Atractylodis Rhizoma, 2 liang), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Ben (Ligustici Wallichii Rhizoma et Radix), Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma), Zhi Gancao (Honey-fried Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, each 1 liang). Take 4 qian per dose. Add ginger and scallion for decoction. Treats wind strike; adjust dosages of Chuanxiong and Baizhi according to symptoms.

[Xu Xueshi Shenzhu San] Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma, 1 jin), Zhima (Sesami Semen, 5 qian, ground into paste), Jujubae Fructus (Dates, 50 pieces, flesh only, pounded). Form pills. Treats fluid retention forming cyst-like accumulations. (Fluid retention condenses into water sacs.)

[Jiu Zhi Cangzhu San] Maoshan Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma) processed by nine steaming and nine sun-drying cycles, then powdered. Treats phlegm-fluid retention and abdominal pain.
