The Heaven has ten Heavenly Stems, and the Earth has twelve Earthly Branches. When adding the Stems to the Branches, two are always left over. These two combine and transform, forming the basis of the Five Movements and Six Qi (Wu Yun Liu Qi, a traditional Chinese medical theory regarding climatic cycles). Therefore, Jia and Yi belong to Wood, Bing and Ding belong to Fire, Wu and Ji belong to Earth, Geng and Xin belong to Metal, Ren and Gui belong to Water. Because Jia is like the sprouting of grass and trees, its root lies in the water of Ren and Gui. Qi moves in the Heaven, while substance constitutes the Earth. In the distinction between substance and Qi, Yin substance is quiet, and Yang Qi is active; thus, Yang governs transformation, and Yin governs stillness, yet they cannot self-regulate. Therefore, Yang Fu organs reveal their origins, while Yin Zang organs remain hidden. However, from Zi hour to Si hour, there is the combination of six Yang hours; from Wu hour to Hai hour, there is the transformation of six Yin hours. Only Ren obtains one, and Gui obtains two and follows it, serving as the pivot of Yin-Yang movement and stillness, the time when Qi numbers are about to manifest. Thus, when Qi completes a cycle, it meets at Ren and Gui, exchanging and maintaining without a fixed chronological standard. Hence, the true secret of Zi Wu Liu Zhu (a acupuncture method calculating Qi flow according to time) states that Jia begins at Xu hour, and Ren ends at Hai hour, with Ren at Zi hour and Gui at Chou hour being the places of beginning and end. One forward, one backward; one vertical, one horizontal; one rising, one stopping; one transforming, one interchanging; one combining, one changing; one ruler, one minister; one assistant, one envoy; one generating, one overcoming; one mother, one child; one husband, one wife; interacting spirits and merging Qi, with infinite transformations. Therefore, there are sixty acupoints in total for a year. For months, days, hours, and quarters, each quarter contains sixty acupoints. The year is clear, and so are the months and days. Why is this? For the Sun and Moon, every thirty days meets at Ren. In the He Tu (River Map, an ancient Chinese diagram representing mathematical and cosmological principles), the point 'one' resides in the North and encompasses all extremes. This is how the number of Huangji Xiantian (Supreme Ultimate Pre-Heaven) originates, and how the Five Elements and Five Qi combine and transform. This is the heart's essence of the Zi Wu Liu Zhu acupuncture method, the manifestation of divine change.
Jia corresponds to Gallbladder, Yi to Liver, Bing to Small Intestine, Ding to Heart, Wu to Stomach, Ji to Spleen, Geng to Large Intestine, Xin to Lung, Ren to Bladder, Gui to Kidney.
The Twelve Meridians circulate through the Twelve Hours: Zi belongs to Gallbladder, Chou to Liver, Yin to Lung, Mao to Large Intestine, Chen to Stomach, Si to Spleen, Wu to Heart, Wei to Small Intestine, Shen to Bladder, You to Kidney, Xu to Pericardium, and only San Jiao (Triple Burner) is pushed to Hai.
Three Yin Meridians of the Hand: Lung Meridian, Taiyin (Greater Yin); Heart Meridian, Shaoyin (Lesser Yin); Pericardium Meridian, Jueyin (Terminal Yin).
Three Yin Meridians of the Foot: Spleen Meridian, Taiyin (Greater Yin); Kidney Meridian, Shaoyin (Lesser Yin); Liver Meridian, Jueyin (Terminal Yin).
