恶硫黄、斑蝥、芜荑。其类有四种∶一大形,纯黄色,为蛇医母,亦名蛇舅母,不入药;
Salty in flavor, cold in nature, slightly toxic. Primarily treats five types of strangury (difficulty or inability to urinate) and stagnant evil qi, breaks down stone strangury (urinary calculi), directs blood downward, and promotes the free flow of urine through the urinary pathways. Also known as Xiyi (Lizard), Shanlongzi (Mountain Dragon Son), Shougon (Guardian Palace), and Shi Yi (Stone Lizard).
Grows in the valleys of Pingyang and among the rocks of Jing Mountain. Harvested in the fifth lunar month, dried on stones.
Adversely affected by Liu Huang (Realgar), Ban Mao (Mylabris), and Wu Ti (Hovenia dulcis seed). There are four varieties: one is large in size, purely yellow, called Sheyi Mu (Snake Doctor Mother), also named Shejiu Mu (Snake Uncle Mother), not used in medicine; the second resembles the Snake Doctor, small in size with a long tail, remains motionless when seeing people, called Longzi (Dragon Son); the third is small in size with five colors, has a lovely cyan-green tail, called Duanyi (Broken Lizard), neither bites humans; the fourth likes to climb fences and walls, called Ting, small in size and black, it is said that being bitten by it leads to death, yet no one has ever heard of someone being bitten by it. According to Dongfang Shuo: if it is not Shougon, then Xiyi is it; thus, this Ting can be called Shougon. Fed with Zhu Sha (Cinnabar) until it reaches three jin in weight, killed, ground into powder, and applied to a woman's body; if sexual intercourse occurs, the powder will detach, otherwise it remains like Chizhi (a red forehead mark), hence called Shougon. Currently, this name is also Shougon, similar to the meanings of Yege (Aconitum carmichaelii root) and Guijiu (Podophyllum peltatum rhizome), making them difficult to distinguish.
[Respectful Commentary]
The four varieties mentioned here: Sheshi grows in mountain valleys, has a large head and short tail, appearing greenish-yellow or with white spots; Ting resembles Sheshi but does not grow in mountain valleys, instead inhabiting house walls; people in Jingchu and Jianghuai regions call it Ting, while those between the Yellow River and Ji River call it Shougon, also named Rongyuan, or Xiehu (Scorpion Tiger), because it often stays on walls, hence called Shougon or Bigong (Wall Palace); it is unlikely that it involves feeding cinnabar to touch women as described, these are all false interpretations. Those named Longzi and having five colors are all called Xiyi; the five-colored ones are male and superior, while those with incomplete colors are female and inferior; their shapes are slender, tails resemble bodies, looking like snakes, possessing four feet, becoming straight snake-like when legs are removed. Sheyi is different. According to "Erya", they are used interchangeably, which is not truly accurate. Furthermore, claiming that feeding cinnabar until reaching three jin is highly absurd.
