Alias: Yelan (Wild Orchid).
Habitat: Grows in valleys of Qiao Mountain.
Harvest: Collect roots in August, dry in shade.
Notes: Qiao Mountain should be the burial place of the Yellow Emperor, located in Shangjun. It is now also available in nearby regions and treats various scabies; long-term use is beneficial, but rarely used in dietary therapy formulas. Currently, merchants use the aerial parts. Folk medicine uses the root, called Luli Gen, rubbed with vinegar to treat sores and scabies.
[Recorded Case]: This herb is commonly known as Jiahao. Its stems and leaves resemble Baihao (White Mugwort); flowers are yellow, produce pods like fine hemp, about the thickness of a chopstick, with four or five petals, turning black after July and August, distinct from common grasses and artemisias. Usually, stems, leaves, and seeds are used; roots are rarely seen in use. What is called "Luli" in southern mountains is Muli Lu (Aconitum brachypodum var. tschananense), which is toxic, and is not Loulu.
