[Guiji (Trionyx Sinensis Shell)]
Salty in flavor, neutral in nature, non-toxic. Primarily treats zheng jia (abdominal masses) and hard accumulations in the heart and abdomen, alternating chills and fever, removes pi (fullness/lump), polyps, yin erosion (ulcers of the genitalia), hemorrhoids, and evil flesh (malignant growths). Treats wen nue (warm malaria), xue jia (blood masses due to stasis), lower back pain, and hard lumps under the hypochondrium in children.
The meat is sweet in flavor, primarily treats internal injury, benefits qi, and supplements deficiencies. Grows in the ponds and marshes of Danyang; can be collected at any time.
Avoid using with Mingfan (Alumen). It is best to take fresh shells and remove all meat; do not use those that have been boiled off. Currently, it is observed that shells with the attached skirt (yuan) intact and dry/rough are good. If there are shell plates on top and bones protruding from both sides, it indicates they were boiled; when used, they should be roasted (zhi).
In summer, when cutting turtles, wrapping them in Amaranthus tricolor (Chixian) and placing them in a damp area will cause them to transform into live turtles. People who carry turtle shell powder wrapped for five months report that it transforms into turtle hatchlings. The meat is also not suitable for consumption; excessive intake often leads to zheng jia. Turtles with sunken eyes, or those eaten with chicken eggs, are fatal. Do not consume with Amaranthus tricolor. Those with a "W" character pattern under the skirt should also not be consumed.
[Note]
Turtle heads burned to ash treat various diseases in children, and also treat postpartum...
[Yujia (Alligator Sinensis Shell / Crocodile Shell)]
Pungent in flavor, slightly warm in nature, toxic. Primarily treats zheng jia, fu jian (latent hard accumulations), accumulations, alternating chills and fever in the heart and abdomen, bing zhong (profuse uterine bleeding) in women, discharge of blood of five colors, pulling pain in the lower abdomen and vagina, sores, scabies, and dead muscle tissue. Treats five types of pathogenic factors causing tearing, weeping, and sudden fright, heavy pain in the waist, and qi long (urinary retention) with ulceration in children. The meat primarily treats shortness of breath with panting (xi xi) and inability to stand firmly on the feet. Grows in the ponds and marshes of the South Sea; can be collected at any time.
Shuqi (Perilla frutescens leaves) serves as its guiding herb; it fears Goudan (Dog gallbladder), Yuanhua (Genkwa flos), and Gansui (Kansui root). This refers to the current tuo jia (alligator/crocodile shell), which should be roasted (zhi) when used. The skin can be used to make drums; the meat is highly nourishing. These creatures are difficult to kill; even after pouring boiling water into their mouths, it takes a long time to peel them open. Yuan meat (Softshell Turtle/Yuan) is also nourishing; eat it in the same manner as tuo. These old turtles/crocodiles can often transform into evil spirits; unless in an emergency, do not eat them.
[Wuzhigu (Sepiae Endoconcha / Cuttlebone)]
Salty in flavor, slightly warm in nature, non-toxic. Primarily treats lou xia (leukorrhea) with red and white fluids, blood obstruction, yin erosion, swelling and pain, alternating chills and fever, zheng jia, and infertility in women. Treats jing qi entering the abdomen, abdominal pain circling the navel, cold swelling in the vagina, promotes conception, and stops ulcers with excessive purulent discharge that fails to dry. The meat is sour in flavor, neutral in nature, primarily benefits qi and strengthens willpower. Grows in the ponds and marshes of the East Sea; can be collected at any time.
Avoid using with Bailian (Ampelopsis japonica root) and Baiji (Bletilla striata tuber). This is transformed from the wu (cuttlefish); currently, its mouth and feet still exist and resemble each other. Its bone should also be roasted (zhi) when used. This fish contains ink in its abdomen, which is now used to make high-quality ink.
[Note]
This fish's bone treats cataracts/opacities (zhang yi) in the eyes of cattle and horses, and also treats eye opacities in humans; its use is effective.
