者,清离定巽法可通用之。昏愦不语,痰袭心包者,宣窍导痰法可通用之。及至发笑之证,皆由邪袭于心;
发痉之证,皆系风乘虚入;或至撮空理线,循衣摸床等证,皆当审其虚实,通其活
法,则不但治时病可以融会,即治杂病亦有贯通之妙耳。
My work is now completed! It first presents theoretical discussions, then establishes treatment principles, followed by the formulation of prescriptions, and finally includes medical cases. If physicians can study these thoroughly, they will naturally achieve a comprehensive understanding. One should not rigidly adhere to the notion that a specific syndrome's routine presentation must be treated with a specific method, nor that a syndrome's atypical presentation must be treated with another fixed method; rather, one should apply flexible methods according to circumstances during clinical practice. Let us first discuss the routine aspects to understand their application: for instance, if the initial onset is due to Wind (Feng), the Muscle-Relieving and Exterior-Dispersing Method (Jieji Sanbiao Fa) is appropriate; if due to Cold (Han), the Acrid-Warm Exterior-Resolving Method (Xinwen Jiebiao Fa) is suitable; if due to Summerheat (Shu), the Cooling and Clearing Summerheat Method (Qingliang Dishu Fa) is indicated; if due to Dampness (Shi), the Modified Weiling Formula (Zengsun Weiling Fa) is used; if due to Dryness (Zao), the Bitter-Warm Drying-Dampness Method (Kuwen Pingzao Fa) is applied; if due to Fire (Huo), the Cooling and Pathogen-Transmitting Method (Qingliang Touxie Fa). These all refer to the routine syndromes of the Six Qi (Wind, Cold, Summerheat, Dampness, Dryness, Fire) in the early stage, representing universal fixed methods. However, regarding atypical variable syndromes and non-fixed flexible methods, these are also indispensable knowledge. For example, in the section on Spring Warmth (Chunwen), there are variable syndromes such as crimson tongue with dry teeth, delirium, coma, convulsions of the limbs, and stupor with inability to speak; in the section on Damp-Warmth (Shiwen), there are variables such as occasional laughter or spasms, grasping at empty air and tracing lines, yellow prickly tongue coating, or coating turning scorched black. Yet, these are not necessarily fixed variations; one must realize that Spring Warmth may also present with Damp-Warmth variable syndromes, and Damp-Warmth may present with Spring Warmth variable syndromes. The text cannot rigidly define them; one must use flexible methods for general treatment. This principle of integration applies not only to Spring Warmth and Damp-Warmth but also to Summer Warmth (Shuwen), Winter Warmth (Dongwen), and various other diseases, which all have similar variable syndromes that can be treated through general principles. Furthermore, in various diseases, if symptoms such as a crimson tongue and dry teeth appear, indicating heat damaging Yin, the Heat-Clearing and Fluid-Preserving Method (Qingre Baojin Fa) can be universally applied. If delirium and coma occur, indicating heat disturbing the Spirit, the Heat-Expelling and Orifice-Opening Method (Qure Xuanqiao Fa) can be universally applied. If convulsions of the limbs occur, indicating extreme heat generating wind, the Heart-Clearing and Liver-Calming Method (Qing Li Ding Xun Fa) can be universally applied. If stupor and inability to speak occur, indicating phlegm invading the Pericardium, the Orifice-Opening and Phlegm-Guiding Method (Xuanqiao Daotan Fa) can be universally applied. As for syndromes involving laughter, they are all caused by pathogenic factors invading the Heart; syndromes involving spasms are all due to wind entering due to deficiency; even syndromes such as grasping at empty air, tracing lines, or feeling along clothes and bedrails require an assessment of deficiency and excess, and the application of flexible methods. Thus, not only can the treatment of Seasonal Diseases (Shibing) be integrated, but the treatment of Miscellaneous Diseases (Zabing) will also reveal profound insights through this approach.
