Tonifies various deficiencies and insufficiencies, nourishes blood, and astringes Heart Qi. Treats palpitations with restlessness, mental dullness and fatigue, and restless sleep.
Bai Zi Ren (Biota Seed), Yuan Zhi (Polygala Root), Suan Zao Ren (Ziziphus Seed), Zi Shi Ying (Hematite), Shu Di Huang (Prepared Rehmannia Root), Chuan Dang Gui (Angelica Sinensis), each one tael; Long Gu (Fossilized Bones). Grind the above into fine powder, mix with refined honey to make pills the size of Sophora seeds. Take 30-40 pills per dose, administered with Jujube Decoction, after meals and before bedtime. The prescription from Duke Han Wei states: "I previously suffered from heart disease, characterized by palpitations, forgetfulness, vague dreams, and frequent insomnia, with various sleeping postures. I had taken all kinds of heart-calming medicines and consulted numerous physicians. They believed that herbs like Chang Pu (Acorus) would further scatter Heart Qi, so only astringent herbs could achieve efficacy. Furthermore, since this condition resulted from excessive mental exertion, it is appropriate to use E Jiao (Donkey-hide Gelatin) and Huang Qi (Astragalus) for tonification." Thus, he compiled this prescription, which proved remarkably effective. Initially, he intended to use He Zi (Chebula Fruit) as an astringent. I said, "He Zi acts primarily on the intestines and stomach. It is inferior to Long Gu (Fossilized Bones) and Rou Gui (Cinnamon Bark), which strongly promote blood circulation. I also wished to facilitate the movement of other herbs in the formula; mixing them causes no harm!"
