Take 1 liang of high-quality Chen Sha (Cinnabar, 辰砂), wrap it in a small piece of cooked silk gauze, and tie it securely with thread. Take one pig heart, cut it open with a bamboo knife, ensuring no contact with paper. Wipe off the blood with paper, place the silk-wrapped Cinnabar inside the pig heart, then bind the pig heart together with hemp thread, and further wrap it with sweet bamboo shoot shells, securing it tightly with hemp skin. Add 2 sheng of wine into a clay pot or silver vessel, and boil until the wine is completely evaporated. Remove the thread and bamboo shoot shells, take out the Chen Sha for separate grinding, place the pig heart in a mortar, grind it until it becomes paste-like, then add the following six powdered medicines, along with Chen Sha and jujube flesh to form pills, reserving a small amount of Chen Sha as the coating. The medicinal powders should be prepared on alternate days. The jujube flesh should be boiled early in the morning on the day the pig heart is boiled; peel it and select 4 liang of clean meat. This prescription was transmitted by Liu Shi, son of Taiwei Pu Shi. A patient suffering from wind disease took this dose, and their condition improved by eight-tenths.
Ingredients include: Ren Shen (Ginseng Root, 人参), Bai Fu Ling (Poria, 白茯苓), Dang Gui (Angelica Sinensis Root, 当归) (remove the radix head, wash to remove soil), Shi Chang Pu (Acorus Rhizome, 石菖蒲), Ru Xiang (Frankincense, 乳香) (separately ground), Suan Zao Ren (Ziziphus Seed, 酸枣仁) (each 0.5 liang). Use 5 liang of Suan Zao Ren, soak in water, remove the skin, yielding 0.5 liang of clean kernels; stir-fry until red and fragrant. Mix all ingredients evenly, form pills the size of Sophora seeds (Wu Tong Zi, 梧桐子), and coat them with the reserved Cinnabar. Take 50 pills per dose, administered with Ren Shen decoction, at any time.
It treats epilepsy and mania in both men and women, whether caused by fright and terror, or postpartum blood deficiency in women leading to fright qi entering the heart, obstructing the vessels, and accumulating pathogenic factors. This prescription has been repeatedly verified effective. Originally named Ling Sha Guan Yin Dan (Spirit Sand Guanyin Pill, 灵砂观音丹), Zhong Yi did not dare to trust it initially. Suddenly, a mad dog was treated with this medicine and showed immediate effect; upon dissecting the dog's abdomen, it was found that the dog had swallowed a gallbladder, hence the name change. Transmitted by Zhang Shengzhi.
Ingredients include: Shui Yin (Mercury, 水银) (2 liang), Zhu Sha (Cinnabar, 朱砂) (1 liang, finely ground), Hei Qian (Black Lead, 黑铅) (1.5 liang), Di Ru Xiang (Dripping Frankincense, 滴乳香) (1 liang, finely ground). First, place the Black Lead in a yinzi (small crucible/pot), add Mercury to form cinnabar-like granules. Then add Cinnabar and Dripping Frankincense. While hot, grind uniformly using a willow wood pestle. Form pills the size of a cock's head (Ji Tou, 鸡头). Take one pill per dose, swallow with Jing Hua Shui (well water drawn at dawn, 井华水) on an empty stomach. Once the patient falls asleep, do not disturb them; upon waking, they will be relieved. Administer another pill to achieve a cure.
