*White silkworm* (Bombyx Batryticatus) that are straight in shape, regardless of quantity, are stir-fried and ground into powder. It is taken orally with fresh ginger juice, one *qianbi* (an ancient measuring unit for medicine, roughly equivalent to a small spoonful). Wu Nei Han recorded in "Bei Ji Fang" (Emergency Formulas): "I once suffered from this condition, and using this formula was very effective." Ge Yanhui, who served as the Supervisor of the Pavilion, once suffered from *hou bi* (throat obstruction characterized by swelling and pain). The Chief Clerk Wuba treated him with this formula, and he felt immediate relief. Another method involves taking two *qian* doses; if there is no relief after administration, take another dose after half an hour (*ban shi xu*). This will immediately clear the obstruction, expelling stubborn phlegm. Additionally, take a piece of *Dahuang* (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), slow-roast it until cooked, crush it into ash, achieving a consistency thick like rice gruel, and slice it. Have the patient lie supine. Let someone hold the medicine in their mouth and inject it into the nasal cavity using a pen tube. For males, use the left nostril; for females, the right. After injection, promptly help the patient sit upright. Phlegm will be expelled shortly. If not helped up immediately, the phlegm might flow out through the nose. After spitting, swallow the previously prepared slices of *Dahuang*.
This formula is miraculous for treating *chan hou feng* (a severe acute throat condition characterized by swelling, pain, and difficulty breathing).
Formula: *Penshao* (1 liang, ground), *Baishangcan* (0.5 liang, silk removed), *Qingdai* (1 qian, ground), *Gancao* (2.5 qian, raw).
Grind all ingredients into a fine powder. Sprinkle a small amount into the throat. If the obstruction is severe, blow it in using a bamboo tube. It can also be used for general discomfort in the throat.

Formula: *Baifan* (Alum, 2 liang, crushed), *Badou* (Crotonis Fructus, 0.5 liang, slightly bruised).
Stir-fry both ingredients together in a *diao* (a type of cooking vessel). When the alum becomes dry and brittle, remove and discard the *Badou*. Grind the alum into a fine powder. When needed, mix with water for oral administration, or blow the dry powder into the throat.
Another Formula:
*Miaoxiao* (Natrii Sulfas, finely ground), *Huandan* (Minium, processed by sublimation [fei], then finely ground).
Mix these two ingredients thoroughly until they form a deep pink color. When needed, use a reed tube or pen tube to blow about half a *qian* of the powder into the throat. This will cause the lesion to rupture, expelling phlegt and leading to recovery. Severe cases may require no more than two applications.
Another Formula:
One snake skin, stir-fried on a new tile until scorched yellow with black spots, ground into a fine powder. Add a small amount of *Shexiang* (Moschus). Apply the dry powder directly into the mouth.
For patients unable to open their mouths:
Wrap one *Badou* (Crotonis Fructus) in yellow wax paper. Size it to match the patient's nostril. Make a slit in the center. Insert it urgently into the nostril. The heat/qi will rush into the throat, causing the obstruction to rupture. Remove it as soon as relief is felt. This is the formula of Wang Yafu, Prefect of Haozhou: Shell the *Badou*, crush it, wrap it in cotton, and insert it into the left or right nostril depending on the condition. This will expel foul matter. Even if minor sores develop in the nostril afterward, it is harmless. (The original edition has the character "yong" [use] above the word "nose").
