When the bleeding is severe, reaching a volume of one sheng or dou. Guo, a physician from Luzhou, stated that when Zhao Junchen served as the military governor of Hefei, his son-in-law, Sima Jiyi, suffered from this condition. He took Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) combined with two liang of scorched Sophora flower (Jiao Huaigui), decocted and taken in the usual manner, which stopped the bleeding; it did not recur for a long time. Later, he obtained this prescription from a colleague, and his condition was resolved. Take one pig stomach, clean it thoroughly. Place four liang of Coptis Rhizoma (Huanglian), cleaned of roots and soil, into the stomach. Add two and a half sheng of wine and two and a half sheng of vinegar. Boil over high heat initially, then low heat, until the liquid is dry. Remove and drain. Pound the pig stomach and Coptis Rhizoma together until extremely fine. Form pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take fifty pills each time, washed down with rice water decoction.
This prescription was transmitted by Professor Zhang of Hanyang.
Scallion roots (Congxu) are stir-fried on a new tile until dry, then ground into a fine powder. Take two to three qian each time, mixed with rice water. The effect is excellent!
For chronic cases presenting with pus and blood in the stool, occurring dozens of times a day, use Zhishi Sanbai Wan.
Ingredients: Zhi Shi (Immature Bitter Orange), Huai Hua (Sophora Flower, raw), each ban liang; Zaogelaci (Gleditsiae Spina), one liang (half used raw, half charred to retain carbonized nature).
Pulverize these ingredients together and sift into a fine powder. Bind with refined honey to form pills the size of paulownia seeds, yielding approximately three hundred pills. Take thirty pills before meals, washed down with rice water; wine may also be used. Severe cases can be cured with one dose. Transmitted by Mao Wen, the engraver.
Prescription of Shangshu Zhang.
Ingredients: Sheng Dihuang (Raw Rehmannia Root, soaked in wine), Shu Dihuang (Prepared Rehmannia Root, soaked in wine), Wuweizi (Schisandra Fruit).
Grind equal parts into a fine powder. Bind with refined honey to form pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take fifty to seventy pills each time, washed down with wine or plain boiled water.
Another prescription, Liang Lugong Wan. A certain person named Qu suffered from this disease for fifty-four days and tried seventeen different prescriptions without success. After taking this one dose, he recovered. It is said that those suffering from lower bleeding due to Heart Qi deficiency can take this.
Take Miaoxiang San (Wonderful Fragrance Powder) mixed with wine.
Another prescription: Bianxiu Shi Tianmin suggested decocting Huanglian (Coptis Rhizoma) strongly and using it to wash down Lianqiao Wan (Forsythia Pill) or Hongwanzi (Red Pill).
Another prescription: Shanzao (Mountain Date), commonly known as "Biti Tuan," along with its flesh and pit, is burnt to ash. Mix with rice water and take.
Wang Sikang prepared Nongpo Jian for Cai Zhaoxian to treat chronic lower bleeding. Han Xianwei Chuqing transmitted that his father, Zuocang Kuoshi, found this prescription effective.
Ingredients: Houpu (Magnolia Bark), five liang (pounded together with five liang of fresh ginger, stir-fried in a silver or ceramic vessel until purple); Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome), one liang; Damai (Barley), Shenqu (Medicated Leaven), each one liang (stir-fried together until purple).
Grind all ingredients into a fine powder. Bind with white flour paste to form pills the size of paulownia seeds. When the disease flares up, take one hundred pills on an empty stomach with rice water. During remission, take thirty to fifty pills.
Sikang believed that by using Baizhu to guide out dampness/water, the blood would naturally cease to flow recklessly. Sikang was the father of Jixian.
